The Rookie Season 4 Episode 5 Guest Stars

Okay, let's talk about The Rookie Season 4, Episode 5. Specifically, the guest stars. Did anyone else feel like it was a bit of a mixed bag?
The Faces We Knew and Loved (Mostly)
First, we had Dylan Conrique as Tamara Colins. She's basically become part of the family now, right? Always offering tech support and a sassy comment or two.
Then there was Brent Huff as Officer Smitty. I gotta say, Smitty's awkwardness is endearing in a cringe-y kind of way. He's like the dad at the party trying too hard to be cool.
Must Read
And of course, Jay Paulson returning as Randy. He is the crime scene cleaner. He's just always there, making slightly inappropriate jokes. He's a staple!
The One We Were on the Fence About
Now, let's get to Jenna Dewan, back as Bailey Nune. This might be an unpopular opinion, but is she really necessary?
Hear me out! She's a great actress, no doubt. But sometimes, it feels like her character is just…there. Like a really attractive plot device.

Don't get me wrong, she and Nolan are cute together. It just feels a little forced at times. Like the writers are trying a little too hard to make us love her.
The New Faces on the Block
We also had Rome Flynn as Morris Mackey. He was kinda interesting.
Then there was Tru Valentino as Aaron Thorsen. His story line was compelling. It really made you think.

There's also Brandon Jay McLaren playing Elijah Stone. Okay, his character definitely stirred things up. He brought that much needed drama.
Did They Add Anything?
Okay, so here's where my unpopular opinion comes in strong. Some of these guest appearances felt… unnecessary. Like they were just filling time.
I love the show. And the main cast is amazing. But adding too many guest stars can muddy the waters, you know?

It takes away from the core characters. The ones we've come to know and love. The ones we're actually invested in.
Who Stole the Show?
If I HAD to pick a standout guest star, it'd probably be Brandon Jay McLaren. Elijah Stone was a great antagonist.
He wasn't just a cardboard cutout villain. He had layers. I'm not saying I liked him, but he was compelling to watch.

Even if it was just to see what messed up thing he'd do next. He was someone you loved to hate.
Final Verdict
Overall, Season 4 Episode 5 had some great moments. Thanks to the guest stars.
But maybe less is more? Focus on the core cast. Give them more to do!
Let's hope the rest of the season finds a good balance. Between new faces and old favorites. Now, that would be criminal to mess up.
