How Long Is The New Ghostbusters Movie 2021

Okay, let’s talk Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Specifically, its length.
Because, let's be honest, at 124 minutes (that's two hours and four minutes!), it felt…long. Maybe I'm just easily distracted by shiny things.
Two Hours of Busting? Really?
Don't get me wrong. I love busting ghosts as much as the next person. But two hours? That's commitment, people.
Must Read
Think about it. That's almost two whole episodes of your favorite sitcom. Back-to-back.
Or a really long nap. (Okay, now you have my attention.)
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Here comes the hot take. Brace yourselves.
I think Ghostbusters: Afterlife could have been, like, 20 minutes shorter. Maybe even 30!
Did we really need every. Single. Scene? I'm just asking!

Cutting Room Floor Fantasies
Imagine the possibilities! We could have trimmed a scene here, a line there.
Perhaps a slightly less drawn-out introduction to the small town of Summerville. Or maybe one less Ecto-1 chase scene.
I know, I know. Blasphemy!
But hear me out. Tighten the pacing, amp up the laughs, and BAM! We've got a lean, mean, ghost-busting machine of a movie.
The Nostalgia Factor
A lot of the runtime, I suspect, was devoted to nostalgia. Which is fine. Ghostbusters is iconic.

But sometimes, too much nostalgia can feel…forced. Like they're hitting you over the head with a proton pack of memories.
I’m not saying ditch the call backs to Egon Spengler. Just, maybe, dial it back a notch?
The Kids Were Great, Though!
Okay, I will concede this. The young cast was fantastic. Mckenna Grace as Phoebe? Absolute perfection.
And Finn Wolfhard? Charming as ever. They were definitely highlights of the film.
Maybe that's where the time went. Character development? I'm okay with that…to a point.

So, Was It Worth It?
Ultimately, yes. Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a fun, nostalgic ride. I laughed. I cried (a little).
But would I have enjoyed it just as much if it were a tad shorter? Absolutely.
Maybe I just have a short attention span. Or maybe, just maybe, I'm onto something.
The Verdict (Kinda)
Look, I'm not saying Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a bad movie because it's a certain length.
It’s just that, in my humble opinion, some movies benefit from being a little more concise.

So, next time you watch it, keep an eye on the clock. See if you agree. And then let's argue about it online!
Because that's what the internet is for, right?
And remember, everyone's entitled to their (possibly wrong) opinion. Especially me.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go re-watch the original Ghostbusters. It’s only 105 minutes. See? Perfect!
