How Long Has Law And Order Svu Been On

Okay, let's talk about that show. You know the one. The one you can always find on, no matter the time or channel.
I'm talking about Law & Order: SVU.
How Long is a Really, REALLY Long Time?
So, how long has SVU actually been on? Buckle up, because this might make you feel ancient.
Must Read
It premiered in 1999. That's right, the last century! Some viewers weren't even born then!
Think about it. Some current college students weren't even a glimmer in their parents' eyes when SVU debuted!
That means SVU has been on for over two decades. Two. Decades.
More Seasons Than Some Relationships Last
We are talking about a run that has surpassed many marriages. And probably most celebrity marriages, let's be honest.

Law & Order: SVU has more seasons than I've had hairstyles. And that's saying something.
Seriously, it's a pop culture institution at this point.
It's like the never-ending story, except instead of a luck dragon, we have Olivia Benson.
My (Possibly Unpopular) Opinion...
Here's where I might lose some of you. I think...I think it's almost too long.
Don't get me wrong. I've watched my fair share of episodes. I know the theme song by heart, probably better than my own phone number.

But has it jumped the shark? More than once? Possibly swam with sharks for a while?
Maybe. Just maybe.
It's like that one friend you've had since kindergarten. You love them, but sometimes you wonder if you've just outgrown each other.
The storylines can feel a bit…repetitive.
There are only so many ways to tell a story, right? And with over 500 episodes, they've probably tried them all.

"In the criminal justice system, sexually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories."
We know the intro. We know the drill.
Is it time to say goodbye?
Look, I'm not saying SVU should be cancelled immediately. I’m not a monster.
But maybe... maybe it's time to start thinking about a graceful exit.
Let Olivia Benson retire to a nice beach. Let Fin Tutuola open a bar.
Let's give it a fantastic series finale, tie up loose ends, and let the show rest.

Or, hear me out, a crossover where all the detectives solve cold cases with advanced tech!
Because honestly, is there anything else to do?
So, yes, Law & Order: SVU has been on for a very, very long time. An impressively, almost unbelievably long time.
Long enough to make you question the very fabric of reality. And maybe, just maybe, long enough.
But hey, that's just my opinion. What do you think?
