"Last Forever - Part 1" Isn't That Bad.

First, let's admit it. We were all dying to finally see the Mother. Like, legit starving. Cristin Milioti is charming from the second she appears. And her introduction is pretty darn cute.

She's ordering the exact same food as Ted did years ago. The serendipity! The destiny! My hopeless romantic heart fluttered. Okay, maybe just a little bit.

And the scene with her and Barney? Hilarious. Her helping him practice talking to women? Comedy gold. Neil Patrick Harris is always brilliant, let's be honest.

Sure, some of the plotlines are… stretched. Looking at you, Lily's airport drama with her bags.

The Gang's All (Almost) Here.

The episode reunites the core gang. Well, almost. Ted's still on his epic road trip. But everyone's storylines are set to collide. The anticipation is palpable.

Robin and Barney are gearing up for their big day. Marshall is stuck with Marvin and a Judge Judy obsession. And Lily? Dealing with…well, airport baggage.

We see hints of what's to come. The tension between Robin and Loretta. Marshall's struggles with career vs. family. These are real issues.

But Is It Too Much Filler?

Okay, valid point. There is a lot of filler. Like, a lot. The whole season is basically filler leading to a wedding and the eventual meeting of Ted and the Mother.

And yes, some of the humor falls flat. The constant running gags can get repetitive. I'm looking at you, slap bet.

But amidst all the chaos and silly subplots, there are moments of genuine connection. Glimpses of the heart that made us fall in love with the show in the first place.

Unpopular Opinion: It Sets the Stage Nicely.

I think "Last Forever - Part 1" does a decent job setting the scene for the rest of the season. It introduces key conflicts. It reveals character growth (or lack thereof).

It reminds us why we care about these characters. Despite their flaws and sometimes questionable decisions. We've spent nine seasons with them.

Maybe it's nostalgia talking. Maybe I'm just easily entertained. But I enjoyed seeing the gang back together. Even if they were stuck in Farhampton.

Look, I'm not saying it's perfect. Far from it. Season 9 has its issues. Major issues. I understand the criticism.

But I think "Last Forever - Part 1" isn't the worst episode of How I Met Your Mother. It's a flawed but ultimately enjoyable start to a controversial season.
