Darling In The Franxx You Were Awful

Okay, let's be honest. We all watched Darling in the Franxx. Some of us even pretended to like it. But were we all secretly thinking the same thing?
A Confession: It Wasn't Great
I'm just going to say it: Darling in the Franxx... you were awful. Don't get me wrong, the mecha designs were cool. And the initial premise? Intriguing!
But somewhere along the way, things went south. Like, really, really south. Did anyone else feel this way?
Must Read
The Hype Train Derailed
Remember the hype? Everyone was buzzing about this new anime. It was supposed to be the next big thing. We were promised angst, action, and maybe even a little romance.
What we got was... something else. Something much, much weirder. I'm still not entirely sure what happened.

Characters We Couldn't Connect With
Let's talk about the characters. Hiro and Zero Two were supposed to be this epic, star-crossed duo. But their relationship felt... forced, sometimes?
And what about the rest of the squad? Did anyone truly care about them? Most of them felt like cardboard cutouts with vaguely defined personalities.
Plot Twists That Made No Sense
The plot. Oh, the plot! It started off strong, but then it devolved into a confusing mess of alien princesses and space battles. What even were the Klaxosaurs, really?

And that ending? Don't even get me started. It felt like they just threw a bunch of ideas at the wall and hoped something would stick.
The Power of Nostalgia (and Mecha)
I get it. There's a certain nostalgia factor at play. Giant robots fighting aliens is always going to be somewhat appealing. Plus, the animation was pretty good.

But even the coolest mecha designs can't save a story that's falling apart at the seams. Admit it, you fast-forwarded through some episodes, didn't you? It's okay, you're among friends.
Zero Two: The Exception?
Okay, I'll give you this: Zero Two had some charm. Her design was iconic, and her rebellious attitude was definitely appealing. She was probably the only thing that kept some of us watching.
But even she couldn't single-handedly rescue the entire show. Sorry, Zero Two fans. Even you have to admit it got a little strange.

Unpopular Opinion: It's Okay to Dislike It
So, here's the bottom line. It's okay if you didn't love Darling in the Franxx. It's okay if you thought it was a convoluted mess. You're not alone.
Sometimes, the most hyped anime just don't live up to expectations. And that's perfectly fine. Let's just move on and find something else to watch. Something hopefully... better.
Maybe something with less confusing alien plotlines, huh? Just a thought. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go rewatch Gurren Lagann. At least that ending made some sense.
