Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Ep 4

Okay, Let's Talk About That "Attack on Titan" Episode...
Right, Attack on Titan. Season 4, Part 2, Episode 4. "From You, 2,000 Years Ago." Whew, that's a mouthful, isn't it? I have some thoughts. And maybe, just maybe, they're a little controversial.
Seriously though, let's be real. Did anyone actually understand everything that was going on? I felt like I needed a PhD in Titan Lore to keep up.
Ymir, The Original Titan: My Unpopular Opinion
Here's the thing. Everyone feels bad for Ymir. And, sure, her backstory is tragic. But honestly? I wasn't totally on board the sympathy train.
Must Read
I get it. She was a slave. She was used and abused. But, hear me out. At some point, didn't she have a little agency? Maybe?
I mean, the Founder Titan power is basically god-like. Couldn't she have, I don't know, yeeted herself to a nice tropical island? Maybe learned to surf?
Instead, she's still building titans in the sand. Like, girl, get a hobby! Pottery, maybe? Anything but eternal servitude!

King Fritz: The Worst Dude Ever?
Okay, nobody's going to argue this one. King Fritz was a grade-A jerk. Possibly the worst human being in the entire series. And that's saying something, considering the competition!
His treatment of Ymir was appalling. Absolutely disgusting. I wanted to reach through the screen and give him a good shaking.
Seriously, where do they find these guys? Is there a "How to Be a Terrible Human Being" handbook they all subscribe to?

Eren and Ymir: A Questionable Connection
So, Eren. Mr. Determined, Mr. Grumpy Pants. He shows up in the Paths and has a chat with Ymir. A long chat.
Honestly, their connection felt a little...forced? Like the writers needed a convenient way to move the plot forward.
And is he manipulating her? Is she manipulating him? Who's manipulating who?! My brain hurts.
The Power of Love? Really?
The episode seems to suggest that Ymir was searching for... love? Is that really what it was all about?

After thousands of years of building titans in the sand, she just needed a little affection? That feels a little... simplistic, doesn't it?
I'm not buying it. I think there's more to the story than we're being told. Maybe she was just really bored.
Final Thoughts: Still Hooked!
Okay, despite my gripes, I'm still completely obsessed with Attack on Titan. It's a wild ride.

I mean, even if I don't understand everything, I'm still glued to the screen. Give me more Titans!
Bring on the Rumbling! Just try to explain things a little better next time, okay?
So, what do you think? Am I totally off base? Or are you secretly agreeing with my unpopular opinions?
Let me know in the comments! (If there were comments on this imaginary website...)
