App Where You Can Facetime And Watch Movies

Okay, hear me out. I have a confession to make. It's about those apps where you can FaceTime and watch movies together.
They're supposed to be romantic, right? The perfect way to connect with your long-distance love while enjoying a flick. Well… I think they’re kinda weird.
My (Probably Unpopular) Opinion
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good movie night. And I adore my friends (and significant others, when I have them!). But something about these shared viewing apps just feels… off.
Must Read
First of all, the lag. Oh, the lag! You're trying to get invested in a dramatic scene, and then BAM! Buffering symbol of doom. Ruined.
Is it just me or am I spending more time yelling "Can you hear me?!" than actually watching the film? I'm sure Christopher Nolan didn't intend for his complex plots to be interrupted by my internet connection.
The Awkward Pauses
Then there are the awkward pauses. You know, the ones where you're both trying to react to the same joke, but the timing is completely messed up.

One person laughs too early, the other laughs too late, and suddenly it's less of a shared experience and more of a comedic timing competition.
And let's not forget the snacking situation! I need to be able to shove popcorn in my face without my loved ones judging me in HD.
The Illusion of Togetherness
I think the biggest problem is the illusion of togetherness. It feels like you're hanging out, but you're really just staring at a screen while another person stares at a screen.

I'd honestly rather just text commentary during the movie. "OMG DID YOU SEE THAT?!" is just as effective, and doesn't require perfectly synchronized internet speeds.
Maybe I'm just a grumpy old soul. Or maybe I just prefer the genuine connection of in-person movie nights (with unlimited, lag-free snacks).
Alternative Movie Night Ideas (That Don't Involve Buffering)
So, what's the solution? How can you enjoy a movie "together" without the tech troubles? Here are a few ideas:

1. Watch the same movie separately and then call each other afterwards to discuss. This is my preferred method, because it means I can pause to pee whenever I want. No explanation needed! Freedom!
2. Create a collaborative playlist inspired by the movie. Music is a powerful connector and requires way less bandwidth.
3. Write fan fiction together. Okay, maybe this is a bit much. But hey, at least it's creative!

In Conclusion (Or, My Humble Plea)
Look, I'm not saying these FaceTime movie apps are evil. They probably work great for some people. And I'm sure app developers had good intentions.
But for me, they just highlight the distance instead of bridging it. Maybe I'll change my mind someday, when internet speeds are faster than the speed of light.
Until then, I'll stick to watching movies alone (or in person), with a giant bowl of popcorn and the freedom to laugh whenever I darn well please. And I'll continue to think they are kinda weird. What about you?
