You Have Restricted Video Playback To Wifi Showtime

The Great Showtime Caper (And My Wi-Fi Dependence)
Remember that time you accidentally set a weird parental control on something? Well, I did. Except instead of blocking, say, sugary cereals, I blocked Showtime. Specifically, I accidentally restricted its playback to Wi-Fi only.
It was a complete mystery at first. I kept trying to watch Dexter on my lunch break, and it just wouldn't load.
“Buffering…buffering…” the screen mocked me, while my data plan sat there, unused and unappreciated.
Must Read
I initially blamed the app. You know, the usual "technology is out to get me" routine. I even uninstalled and reinstalled it, a digital ritual performed by millions daily.
Spoiler alert: it didn't work.
The Detective Work Begins
I’m not usually one for troubleshooting. If something doesn’t work immediately, I tend to assume it’s a sign I should be doing something more productive.
But Dexter. Need I say more? I was determined.

So I started Googling. Endless searches of “Showtime won’t play on data,” “Showtime mobile data issues,” and even the slightly desperate “Is Showtime deliberately trying to ruin my life?”
The results were…unhelpful. Mostly suggestions to clear my cache (been there, done that) and check my internet connection (duh!).
The Accidental Revelation
The solution came, as all good solutions do, at the most unexpected moment. I was idly poking around in the settings, avoiding actual work, when I saw it.
A little toggle switch, innocently labeled "Wi-Fi Only Playback." And, of course, it was switched ON for Showtime. Only Showtime!

It was like discovering I'd accidentally built a tiny, digital prison just for Dexter, keeping him captive until I was within range of my precious Wi-Fi.
I’m pretty sure I actually said, out loud, “Well, that’s ridiculous.”
The Aftermath: A Love Letter to Wi-Fi
I switched it off immediately. Dexter loaded instantly. The world righted itself. But the experience left me with a newfound appreciation for something I’d always taken for granted: Wi-Fi.
Suddenly, coffee shops with free Wi-Fi were beacons of hope. My home network became my sanctuary. I even started carrying around a portable hotspot, just in case.

Okay, I’m kidding about the hotspot. Mostly.
But seriously, I’d never really considered how much I relied on Wi-Fi until I accidentally restricted my favorite serial killer show to it.
The Unexpected Benefit: Embracing the Home Theater
The whole Showtime debacle also inadvertently turned me into a home theater enthusiast. Why watch on my tiny phone screen when I could wait until I got home and enjoy it on the big TV, with surround sound?
Suddenly, evenings were less about scrolling through social media and more about settling in for a cinematic experience. (Okay, maybe “cinematic” is a bit of an exaggeration, but still.)

It even made me think about all those times I'd mindlessly scrolled through Showtime on my phone when I was bored. Now, I savored the experience, making it a conscious choice rather than a reflex.
So, thank you, accidental Wi-Fi restriction, for teaching me to appreciate the small things, like a strong signal and a good episode of Dexter. And for reminding me that sometimes, the silliest mistakes can lead to the most unexpected discoveries.
Just promise me you won't do it again, okay?
