Yamada-kun And The Seven Witches Urara Shiraishi

Okay, let's talk about Yamada-kun and the Seven Witches. Specifically, let’s talk about Urara Shiraishi. She’s kind of a big deal in that show, right?
Now, don't get me wrong, Shiraishi is cool. But…is she the best witch? Maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but I have thoughts.
The Case For Shiraishi (and Why It’s Not Enough)
She’s got the whole "model student" thing going on. She's smart and well-behaved, a stark contrast to Yamada. You gotta admire that dedication.
Must Read
And, of course, she kicks everything off with the body-swapping shenanigans. Without her, there's no story! We owe her big time for that.
But honestly? Sometimes she feels…a little too perfect. Like, where's the fun in that?
The Other Witches Deserve Some Love
Consider Nene Odagiri. Yeah, she starts out as the "rival," but her character arc is amazing! She grows and changes so much.

And Meiko Otsuka? A total sweetheart who just wants to help everyone. That's way more relatable than being a genius all the time.
Even Maria Sarashima's mind-reading power has more potential for chaos. Plus, her whole backstory is incredibly interesting!
And who can forget Noa Takigawa and her past trauma? The fact that she is able to overcome that and smile again is truly something to behold and worthy of admiration.

Shiraishi: The Straight Man in a Comedy Act
Think of it like this: Shiraishi is the straight man (or woman) in a comedy act. She sets up the punchlines for everyone else.
While that's important, the straight man doesn't usually steal the show. The wacky characters with the over-the-top reactions do.
Don't get me wrong; Shiraishi's reactions to Yamada's antics are great. But, she is playing against so many other fun personalities.

The “Perfect” Character Problem
Maybe it's just me, but I find flaws more interesting. Characters who struggle and make mistakes feel more real.
Shiraishi, while having her own issues with being isolated, often feels like she has it all together. It is sometimes hard to fully connect.
I root for the underdogs and the weirdos. And sometimes, Shiraishi just doesn't quite fit that bill.

A Matter of Preference
Ultimately, it’s all a matter of preference. If you love Shiraishi, that's totally cool! No judgement here.
But for me, the other witches bring a little something extra to the table. They have an edge, a quirkiness, that Shiraishi lacks.
So, is Urara Shiraishi overrated? Maybe. Is she still a great character? Absolutely! Now, let the debate begin!
Now if you excuse me, I have a body-swapping show to re-watch.
