Will So You Think You Can Dance Return In 2021

So You Think You Can Dance. Remember that show? The one that made you believe you could totally pull off a contemporary routine? Yeah, me neither. But I miss it!
The question everyone's asking is: Will it be back in 2021? Or is it destined for the TV graveyard?
The Great Dance Drought of 2020
Let's be honest, 2020 was a rough year for everyone. Especially for shows involving large groups of people breathing heavily in close proximity.
Must Read
Production was halted. Our dance dreams were deferred. My living room remained a strictly un-dance-battle zone. Sad times.
Why We Need More Dancing
Look, I get it. There are a million things to watch. But SYTYCD gave us something special. Inspiring stories and crazy-talented dancers.
Plus, who doesn’t love watching Nigel Lythgoe make delightfully snarky comments? That alone is worth bringing the show back.

We need some sparkle, some leaps, some dramatic music swells! We need dancers pouring their hearts out on stage, even if I can only pour myself a glass of wine while watching.
The Case For a Comeback
Okay, so maybe I’m being overly optimistic. But hear me out. People are craving feel-good entertainment.
Think about it. After a year of… gestures vaguely at everything, what's better than watching someone nail a perfect pas de deux?

Reality shows are having a moment. Why can’t dance get in on the action again?
The Challenges, of Course
There are hurdles, obviously. Health and safety protocols will need to be tight. Plus, finding enough talented dancers who haven't already been snapped up by other projects.
And let's not forget the judges. Will the original crew return? Or will we see some fresh faces? I'm secretly hoping for a Paula Abdul cameo.

My Unpopular Opinion
Here it comes... I think So You Think You Can Dance is better than Dancing with the Stars. Don't @ me!
It's raw, it's real, and the choreography is next-level. Plus, the dancers aren't celebrities trying to learn how to cha-cha. They're dancers.
Okay, maybe I'm biased. But give me a group routine choreographed by Mia Michaels over a sparkly waltz any day.

So, What's the Verdict?
Honestly, your guess is as good as mine. But I’m putting positive vibes out into the universe.
I’m crossing my fingers, doing a little impromptu (and terribly executed) jazz square, and hoping for good news.
Because let's face it. The world needs more dance. And I need to yell at my TV screen while simultaneously being deeply impressed by people who can actually move their bodies with grace and precision.
Bring back So You Think You Can Dance! Please! Pretty please with a pirouette on top!
