Why Was Officer West Killed On The Rookie

Why Did They Do That to West?!
Okay, let's be real. We're all still a little (or a lot) salty about what happened to Officer West. He was, like, the perfect rookie. Seriously, did anyone ever actually dislike him?
I'm not saying the show is ruined forever. But it definitely left a West-shaped hole in our hearts. And on our TV screens every Sunday night. So, why? Why, writers, why?
The Dramatic Effect Theory
This is the obvious one. Kill off a beloved character? Instant drama! It's a classic soap opera move. Except, you know, on a cop show. Did the show need more drama? Debatable.
Must Read
Maybe ratings were slipping. Or maybe they just wanted to shake things up. Did anyone ask us if we wanted a shake-up? I seem to remember being perfectly happy with how things were.
The Story Arc Sacrifice
Sometimes, characters have to go to push other characters' storylines forward. It's brutal, I know. Officer Nolan needed to feel something! I’m not sure if that was worth the cost.

Perhaps West's death was supposed to make us root harder for the remaining characters. To show us the real dangers of the job. Mission accomplished, I guess? But at what cost?!
The Actor's Choice?
Now, this is where things get interesting. Could the actor, Titus Makin Jr., have wanted out? Maybe he got a better offer. Hollywood, after all. It's a land of opportunity.

Sometimes, actors and shows just part ways. It happens. But wouldn't they just send him off to another precinct? Or on an undercover mission that lasts forever? Killing him felt so...final.
My Unpopular Opinion: It Was Just Bad Writing
Okay, brace yourselves. I think it was just… not a great decision. Sometimes, writers make choices that don't quite land. Maybe they got caught up in the moment.

Maybe they thought it would be edgy and unexpected. But instead, it just felt… sad. And unnecessary. Are we supposed to just move on like nothing happened?
Honestly, the show could have continued with West developing into a seasoned officer. Picture it: West as a training officer himself! The possibilities were endless!

Could They Bring Him Back? (Please?)
Look, I know it's a long shot. Dead is usually dead in the world of TV. But what if...amnesia? A long lost twin? A ridiculously elaborate undercover operation gone wrong?!
A girl can dream, right? Until then, I'll just be rewatching old episodes and pretending West is still out there. Fighting crime. And being ridiculously charming.
So, what do you think? Was it drama? Was it the actor? Or was it just a plot twist gone wrong? Let me know in the comments. But be nice to West’s memory, ok?
