Why Can't I Rent Videos On Amazon Prime App

Okay, let's get something straight. I love movie night. I really do.
But there's something about the Amazon Prime Video app that drives me absolutely bonkers.
The Rental Rant
Specifically, it's this: Why can't I just rent a video on the app? Seriously!
Must Read
I'm snuggled on the couch, popcorn ready, and BAM! I need to get my laptop? It's the 21st century. My phone should handle this.
Is this just me? I'm starting to think I'm the only one who finds this mildly infuriating.
Maybe I'm missing something. Some secret code, or a hidden button that only appears under a full moon?
The Great Escape (From the App, Apparently)
Instead, I have to abandon my comfy spot. I need to fire up my laptop, log in to Amazon. Then find the movie again.

All to rent it? It just feels like a whole lot of extra steps, am I right?
By the time I've finally completed the digital obstacle course, my popcorn is getting cold! The suspense is gone. My cat has probably stolen my spot.
Is This Just…Laziness?
Okay, fine, maybe it is a little bit laziness on my part. But isn't convenience the whole point of streaming services?
I thought the future involved robots bringing me snacks and renting movies with a thought.

Instead, I'm battling a user interface that feels like it's actively trying to prevent me from giving Amazon my money!
The Unspoken Truth (Probably)
I have a theory. A wild, possibly unfounded theory.
Maybe it's on purpose. Hear me out!
Maybe they want me to browse on a bigger screen. Perhaps they think I'll add more things to my cart. Get lost in the online shopping abyss.

Conspiracy Theory Alert!
It's a dark pattern, I tell you! A deliberate attempt to… okay, maybe I'm being dramatic.
But seriously, is there another explanation? Why make it so difficult to give you money, Amazon?
I'm starting to think it's a test. A test to see how dedicated I am to watching this particular movie.
My "Unpopular" Opinion
So, here's my unpopular opinion: Renting videos on the Amazon Prime Video app should be easier.

There, I said it. Judge me if you will.
I will keep fighting the good fight (from my couch, after I've used my laptop to rent the movie, of course).
I just really, really want to watch this movie. Without having to perform a digital decathlon first.
And maybe, just maybe, someone at Amazon will hear my plea. And they will change the way things work for the better. One can dream!
Please, Amazon, hear my cry. Simplify the rental process. For the sake of popcorn, cats, and movie nights everywhere!
Until then, I'll be over here, wrestling with my laptop and wondering if I should just buy a physical copy instead. At least then I know how to work the technology!
