Where Is The Church In Saints And Sinners

So, Where's the Church in Saints & Sinners, Really?

Okay, let's be honest. We all played Saints & Sinners. We dodged walkers. We crafted shivs. But did anyone actually find...you know...a church?

I mean, think about it. New Orleans is steeped in history. History usually involves a hefty dose of religion. So, where’s the stained glass?

Missing My Sunday Best

You’d expect at least one dilapidated cathedral. Maybe a creepy crypt or two. A place where you could scavenge for supplies while contemplating your poor life choices? But nope.

Instead, we got the Bus. And the Reserve. And enough undead to fill a papal parade. Which, ironically, might have been more religiously fulfilling than anything in the game. Just saying.

Is the Bus Our New Cathedral?

Some might argue that the Bus functions as a kind of church. It’s a sanctuary. It’s where we craft, rest, and strategize. But is it really spiritual?

I mean, the closest thing to a sermon we get is May talking about killing walkers. And that feels less "holy communion" and more "zombie dismemberment 101." Though, to be fair, some sermons do feel that way. I'm not naming names.

The Tower: A False Idol?

And then there's the Tower. They think they’re doing God’s work, bringing order to chaos. But let's face it, they're just power-hungry jerks with radios.

They preach control and obedience. I'm pretty sure Jesus preached the opposite. Okay, maybe not exactly the opposite, but definitely less about curfews and more about, you know, love thy neighbor. Even if that neighbor is trying to eat your brains.

The Reclaimed: A Religious Cult In Disguise

Don't even get me started on the Reclaimed. They worship walkers. Walkers! This isn't your grandmother’s Episcopalian service. Unless your grandmother was really into the undead.

They think the zombies are some kind of higher power? That’s…a bold theological statement. I'd need a lot more convincing (and possibly a priest) to get on board with that.

Maybe We're The Church? (Unlikely)

Could it be that the game wants us, the players, to be the moral compass? Are we supposed to bring light to the darkness? To choose between saint and sinner?

Probably not. Let's be real. Most of us just wanted to collect the tarot cards and craft the best weapons. Spiritual enlightenment was a distant third, after looting and surviving. Priorities, people.

My Unpopular Opinion: Church is Missing

Here’s my hot take: Saints & Sinners missed a trick. A genuine, albeit ruined, church could have added so much atmosphere.

Imagine finding a hidden chapel. A place untouched by the apocalypse. A moment of peace amidst the chaos. It could have been a powerful narrative tool. But alas, all we have are walkers and questionable life choices.

So, yeah. I’m still looking for that church. Maybe in the sequel? Here's hoping for Saints & Sinners 2: Electric Boogaloo...and a Baptismal Font.
