Dexter's Back... Again? Seriously?

Okay, let's be real. We’ve all heard the whispers. The rumors. The desperate pleas from fans. Will Dexter grace our screens once more?

The question isn't just "is it happening?" It's "should it be happening?" I know, I know. Unpopular opinion alert!

Remember Dexter: New Blood?

We got Dexter: New Blood. It was...a thing. A thing that happened. Let's just say the ending sparked some heated debates around the water cooler (or, you know, on Reddit).

Some loved it! Some… well, let’s just say they felt betrayed. Like Dexter himself had betrayed them! I'm not taking sides (totally am, though).

But that finale left a door slightly ajar, didn’t it? A tiny sliver of hope (or dread, depending on your perspective) for more. Harrison's on the run, full of teenage angst and...well, you know.

So, About That Release Date...

Right now, there’s no official release date for a new Dexter series. Zilch. Nada. Bupkis.

Showtime (now Paramount+ with Showtime - try saying that three times fast!) hasn't made any announcements. Our dreams may have to wait.

But the internet is a wild place. Speculation runs rampant! Fan theories abound! You can find enough "insider information" to fill a swimming pool. Take it all with a grain of salt, my friends.

What Could Happen?

Hypothetically speaking, if they did decide to revive the franchise (again!), what could we expect? More Harrison? A brand new killer? Dexter somehow magically reappearing?

Maybe Harrison is the new killer? A copycat who learned from the best (or worst, depending on how you look at it). That could be interesting.

Or maybe they go in a completely different direction! A prequel series? A spin-off about Debra's ghost solving mysteries? Okay, maybe not that last one.

My (Possibly Controversial) Take

Here's the thing. While I appreciate the effort of New Blood, and the return of Michael C. Hall as Dexter, sometimes things are better left… undisturbed.

I loved the original series (the first four seasons, at least!). But trying to recapture that magic? It's a tough ask.

Maybe it's time to let Dexter rest in peace. Let the bay be his final resting place. Let Harrison find a good therapist and a normal hobby (please!).

But...Never Say Never, Right?

Of course, Hollywood loves a good revival. And money talks. So, if the demand is there, and the story is compelling... who knows?

Maybe, just maybe, we’ll see Dexter sharpening his knives again someday.

But until then, I'm happy re-watching the early seasons and pretending the later ones never happened. What about you?
