When Does The Handmaid's Tale Come Back 2022

Okay, folks, let's talk The Handmaid's Tale. Are you ready for its return? I know I am… mostly.
When is it coming back in 2022?
That's the million-dollar question, isn't it? After what felt like a very long wait, we're finally getting Season 5 in 2022!
Mark your calendars for September 14, 2022. Get ready for those Wednesday watch parties!
Must Read
Is it just me, or does it feel like we've been waiting since the actual Gilead was established?
But Wait, There's More (Dread?)
Now, I know everyone's obsessed with June Osborne (played by the incredible Elisabeth Moss). But am I the only one who secretly finds her a little bit annoying sometimes?
Don't get me wrong, I admire her rebellious spirit. But all that simmering rage can get tiring after a while!
It's like, girl, I get it. Gilead is awful. Can we maybe explore a character who isn't constantly on the verge of exploding?

And seriously, how many times can one person escape Gilead? It's becoming a bit of a running joke, isn't it?
At this point, it’s practically a tourist attraction: “Come see June Osborne escape! Daily showings!”
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Here’s where I might lose some of you: I’m kind of over the endless suffering. I know, I know, it's a dystopian drama. But at what point does it become gratuitous?
We've seen horrors upon horrors. Do we really need more to understand that Gilead is bad?

Can't we get a little bit of hope in there? Maybe a successful rebellion? A character who finds lasting happiness? (Gasp!)
Okay, maybe lasting happiness is too much to ask for in Gilead. But a girl can dream, right?
I’d be happy with a fleeting moment of joy. A character eating a really good piece of cake in secret. Something!
What We Do Know (Besides More Pain)
So, what can we expect in Season 5? Well, expect more June vs. Serena. This rivalry is the gift that keeps on giving… if your gift is constant anxiety.

Word on the street is June is facing consequences for killing Commander Waterford. No surprise there!
Expect some new allies, some betrayals, and probably a few more characters facing horrifying fates. You know, the usual.
Seriously though, I secretly hope that someone starts a support group in Canada for Gilead escapees.
They could swap trauma stories over cookies and tea. It would be therapeutic... and probably make for a great spin-off show.

Final Thoughts (Before We All Cry)
Despite my slightly cynical take, I'm still excited for The Handmaid's Tale to return. It's a well-acted, thought-provoking show that keeps us hooked.
Just maybe, this season, can we get a little less misery and a little more… I don't know… cake?
So, grab your tissues, prepare for some serious emotional turmoil, and tune in on September 14th! May the odds be ever in your favor... especially if you’re trying to survive Gilead.
Remember, Nolite te bastardes carborundorum. Don't let the bastards grind you down… unless they’re really persistent, in which case, just run. Run far, far away!
