When Does Goku Come Back To Life After Cell

So, Cell explodes. The Earth is saved (mostly). But where's Goku? Well, he's decided to stay dead. Yep, you read that right.
The Afterlife Vacation
Goku, bless his Saiyan heart, figured the Earth was better off without him constantly attracting planet-destroying villains. He calls it "training in the Other World." Sounds like a cosmic spa day to me!
Think about it: no dishes, no chores, just endless fighting with strong guys. Basically, Goku's ideal vacation.

Waiting...and Waiting...
Years pass. Gohan grows up, gets a girlfriend (finally!), and the Z Fighters keep protecting Earth. Goku is still kicking it in the afterlife.
You'd think someone would miss him enough to wish him back with the Dragon Balls, right? Well, it's a bit more complicated than that.

The One-Day Pass to Earth
Eventually, we get to the World Martial Arts Tournament during the Majin Buu Saga. This is where things get interesting.
Goku gets a special, one-day permit to visit Earth! Thanks, King Yemma! Think of it as a super-Saiyan furlough.

He gets to see his family, watch the tournament, and even fight a little. It's a brief but sweet reunion.
The Real Resurrection
But, hold on! That one-day pass wasn't permanent. Goku is still technically dead. He can't stay, he's gotta go back. Don't fret, the real resurrection is just around the corner.
Later in the Buu Saga, when the world is truly on the brink of destruction, old Kaioshin decides to give up his own life force so Goku can be revived permanently.

It's a pretty selfless act, all things considered. And finally, Goku is back! And not just for a day, or an afternoon, he's back back! Like, able to eat mountains of food back.
Finally Back in Action
So, there you have it. Goku doesn't come back to life immediately after the Cell Saga. He chills in the afterlife for quite a while.

He gets a temporary visit during the World Tournament, but his true return happens thanks to Kaioshin's sacrifice during the Buu Saga. It's a long wait, but totally worth it to have our favorite Saiyan back in action.
The lesson? Even Saiyans need a vacation! But eventually, they'll come back to save the world, usually after a really, really good nap (or a really, really intense training session).
And always remember that sometimes, even death is just a temporary inconvenience for a Saiyan warrior.
"I am the hope of the Universe. I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace. I am protector of the innocent. I am the light in the darkness. I am truth. Ally to good! Nightmare to you!"
