When Did Season 1 Of You Come Out

Okay, let's talk You. Not you specifically, unless... are you secretly a bookstore manager? Just kidding! (Mostly.)
We're here to figure out when we first met Joe Goldberg and his, uh, unique approach to relationships. Think back. Before you were binge-watching everything.
The Great You Reveal: Netflix and Lifetime Tag Team
Here's the deal. Season 1 of You didn't just magically appear on Netflix one day. It had a bit of a complicated birth story. Kind of like Joe’s backstory, really.
Must Read
First, Lifetime Took a Chance
Originally, You premiered on the Lifetime network. Remember Lifetime? It was September 9, 2018. Mark that day on your calendar! Or don't, whatever.
Lifetime gave us our first glimpse of Penn Badgley's creepy charm. It was a bold move. We got to see if Joe could win over our hearts (while simultaneously stealing our phone and stalking us online).
The ratings weren't exactly stellar on Lifetime, though. Sad trombone noises. This is where Netflix swoops in like our streaming knight in shining armor.

Then Netflix Said, "I Want You!"
Netflix picked up You after its run on Lifetime. Thank goodness! This is where everything changed. Get ready for the Netflix effect.
They started streaming Season 1 on December 26, 2018. Christmas presents, schmismas! Joe Goldberg is here to fulfill your every wish. Or maybe just your doom.
Suddenly, everyone was talking about it. Twitter was exploding with reactions. Joe Goldberg was officially a cultural phenomenon.

The Unpopular Opinion Section (Brace Yourselves)
Here's where I might lose some of you. Don't hate me! It needs to be said.
I think Season 1 of You is, dare I say... overrated? There, I said it. Don't get me wrong, it's good! But the hype was astronomical.
Maybe it's just because I'm old and grumpy now. Back in my day, stalkers weren't romanticized on TV! I am joking.. mostly.

It does feel like Season 1 hooked us with its novelty. The inside-Joe's-head narration was fresh! We loved rooting for him even if he's the bad guy.
So, Which Date Do We Celebrate?
Ultimately, it depends on your perspective. Do you remember watching it first on Lifetime? Then September 9th is your anniversary.
Did you only discover You on Netflix? Then December 26th is the day Joe entered your life. Welcome! Prepare for the chaos.

Either way, we can all agree that You is a wild ride. Full of twists, turns, and questionable life choices.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go check my blinds. Just in case Joe is lurking. And maybe delete my social media. You know, for safety.
Stay safe out there. And maybe avoid bookstores. Especially ones with creepy managers. Just a thought.
Just kidding. (Mostly). Happy watching!
