What Year Did My Little Pony Come Out

Okay, let's talk ponies. Those colorful, magical creatures have been around for... well, a while. But when exactly did these pastel-colored pals gallop onto the scene?
It's a surprisingly tricky question! Don't worry. We'll sort through the glitter and rainbows.
The Great Pony Proliferation
You see, there wasn't just one My Little Pony launch. No, no. That would be too simple.
Must Read
Generation 1: The OG Ponies
Many bronies and pegasisters will shout: 1983! And yes, they have a point.
The first line of My Little Pony toys, the Generation 1 (G1) ponies, pranced into toy stores in 1983. Think: brushable manes, cute symbols, and names like "Butterscotch" and "Minty." So cute!
This is where it gets interesting, at least for me. Before the toys, there was the My Pretty Pony prototype in 1981.
My Pretty Pony was larger. She was less...pony-like. She could even wiggle her ears and wag her tail!

A Cartoon Can of Worms
The first My Little Pony cartoon special also aired in 1984. Remember those?
Then, the My Little Pony 'n Friends animated series premiered in 1986. So, did the ponies "come out" in '83, '84, or '86?
Confusing, right? I think it is!
Generation 2 (and beyond!)
Then came Generation 2 (G2) in the late 90s! These ponies had a different look.

G3 arrived in 2003, with even more changes. Each generation brought new designs, stories, and fans.
And who can forget My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic (G4), which started in 2010? Huge success!
My (Potentially Unpopular) Pony Opinion
So, what year did My Little Pony really come out?
Here's where I might ruffle some feathers. I'm going with 1981, with My Pretty Pony.

Hear me out! She was the seed, the spark, the proto-pony that started it all. Without her, there's no Butterscotch, no Rainbow Dash, no sparkly pony world as we know it!
She's the Eve of the Pony-verse. Okay, maybe that's going too far. I get it.
It's totally fine if you disagree. Maybe you think it's '83 because that's when the My Little Pony brand truly took off.
Or perhaps you are firm on 2010. Friendship is Magic brought in many new fans!

The Real Answer? It Doesn't Matter!
Ultimately, does it even matter when the ponies first appeared?
What matters is the joy they've brought to so many people over the years. The friendships forged, the creativity inspired, the glitter...oh, the glitter!
So, whether you're a G1 purist or a G4 fanatic, let's all just agree that My Little Pony is awesome. Celebrate the ponies!
And maybe, just maybe, give a little nod of appreciation to My Pretty Pony. She deserves some love too, don't you think?
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to brush my pony's mane. Which one? I'm not telling!
