What To Do If Macbook Won't Turn On

Oh dear, your Macbook won't turn on. Don't panic! It happens to the best of us. My unpopular opinion? Sometimes technology just hates Mondays.
The "Is It Plugged In?" Check
Let's start with the obvious. Is the charger actually plugged in? Seriously, check both ends. I once spent an hour troubleshooting before realizing the power strip was off.
Is the outlet working? Plug something else in. A lamp, your phone charger, your lava lamp. Anything but your hopes and dreams, okay?
Must Read
Try a different outlet. Maybe the gremlins only haunt that one specific spot. It's worth a shot, right?
The Power Button Tango
Press and hold that power button. Count to ten... slowly. Think happy thoughts. Visualize your Macbook springing to life.
Still nothing? Try holding it for longer. Maybe twenty seconds. Channel your inner zen master and be patient.

Okay, deep breath. Time for a different tactic. Let's try something a little more... forceful.
The Unpopular Opinion: The SMC Reset
This is where things get a little technical. But don't worry, I'll keep it simple. It involves pressing a few keys at the same time.
For older Macbooks (pre-T2 chip): Unplug it. Then, hold down Shift + Control + Option + Power for ten seconds. Let go, plug it back in, and try turning it on. Voila!
For newer Macbooks (with T2 chip): Shut it down. Hold down the power button for ten seconds. Release, wait a few seconds, and press it again. Fingers crossed.

Still nothing? My unpopular opinion is, sometimes these "fixes" are just elaborate dances we do to appease the tech gods.
The Brightness Check
Maybe it is on, but the screen is just really, really dark. Shine a flashlight on the Apple logo. Can you see anything?
Try pressing the brightness up key (F2 usually). Maybe you accidentally dimmed it to oblivion. We've all been there, haven't we?
The "Let It Charge" Approach
Perhaps your battery is just completely dead. Let it charge for at least 30 minutes. Resist the urge to constantly poke the power button.

Go make a cup of tea. Read a book. Meditate. Forget about your Macbook for a while. Absence makes the heart grow fonder… and sometimes the battery too.
My unpopular opinion: Technology responds best to being ignored.
The Sound Check
Listen closely when you press the power button. Do you hear any fans spinning? Any hard drive noises? Any faint beeps?
Even a tiny sound can be a sign of life. It means something is happening. Don't give up hope just yet!

The Last Resort: The Apple Store
If you've tried everything and your Macbook is still stubbornly refusing to cooperate, it's time to call in the professionals.
Schedule an appointment at the Apple Store. Be prepared to explain everything you've already tried. And bring your patience.
My unpopular opinion? Sometimes paying someone else to fix it is the most cost-effective solution. Especially if you value your sanity.
Good luck! May the tech gods be ever in your favor.
