What Order To Watch The Vampire Diaries And The Originals

So, you wanna dive headfirst into the world of Mystic Falls and New Orleans? Awesome! But uh oh, a dilemma. What order should you watch The Vampire Diaries (TVD) and The Originals (TO)? It's a question that's plagued humanity for years.
Fear not, gentle viewer! I'm here to offer my (slightly controversial) opinion. Prepare to be amazed. Or mildly irritated. Either way, let's do this!
The "Official" Order: A Recipe for Confusion
The generally accepted order involves weaving back and forth. Watch some TVD, then switch to TO. It's like trying to braid hair while riding a unicycle. Possible? Sure. Easy? Not a chance.
Must Read
Why It Doesn't Work (For Me)
Honestly, the back-and-forth gave me whiplash. I was constantly trying to remember what happened when in which show. Plus, spoilers abound if you're not careful! It's a minefield.
Trying to keep track of who's mad at who, and why? Forget about it. My brain just couldn't handle that level of vampire drama juggling.
My Unpopular Opinion: TVD Then TO (Mostly)
Here's my hot take: binge The Vampire Diaries first. At least, through season 4. Gasp! I know, some people will call me crazy.

But hear me out! TVD is the OG. It lays the foundation. We get to know Elena, Stefan, and Damon. We understand the lore.
Then, once you've reached the end of TVD Season 4, pause. Now is the perfect time to dive into The Originals Season 1.
The Originals Season 1 is kinda its own contained story. It introduces Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah in New Orleans. It's a great jumping-off point.

Watch TO Season 1. Then, go back to TVD Season 5. Continue interweaving the shows based on release date after that point. You know, if you want to.
Why This Works (For Me!)
This method allows you to fully invest in the Mystic Falls crew. No distractions. You get to know and (maybe) love them before their world starts colliding with the Mikaelsons' even crazier world.
Plus, you experience Klaus's transition from villain to reluctant anti-hero in a more natural way. It's less jarring. Trust me.

It feels like you're finishing one story before starting another. Like reading books in a series. It's much more satisfying, in my humble opinion.
The "No Wrong Way" Caveat
Okay, okay. There's no truly wrong way to watch these shows. If you enjoy the chaotic interweaving, go for it!
Ultimately, the best order is the one that keeps you entertained. So, experiment. See what clicks. Embrace the vampire craziness!

Just remember: I warned you about the potential for confusion. And spoilers. So, don't come crying to me when you accidentally learn that someone dies. (Everyone dies eventually, anyway. It's a vampire show!).
Enjoy the Ride!
Whichever order you choose, prepare to be obsessed. These shows are addictive! You'll be Team Stefan, Team Damon, and maybe even Team Klaus. Don't judge me.
Just grab some snacks, dim the lights, and get ready for a wild ride. Welcome to the world of vampires, werewolves, and witches. You're gonna love it. Or hate it. But you won't be bored!
Happy watching, friends! And may your favorite character survive until at least the middle of the series. Good luck with that!
