Then comes Dragon Ball Z (DBZ). This is probably the series you think of when you picture Dragon Ball. Things get more serious, the stakes get higher, and the transformations get wilder.
Goku is all grown up, facing off against planet-busting villains like Frieza, Cell, and Majin Buu. Prepare for epic battles that last for episodes, power-ups that seem impossible, and the iconic Super Saiyan transformation. It's peak Dragon Ball melodrama, and we love it.
A Bit of Controversy: Dragon Ball GT
Next, we have Dragon Ball GT. This series is...controversial. It wasn't based on Akira Toriyama's original manga, and opinions on it are very divided.
Goku gets turned into a kid again (yes, really), and he, Pan (his granddaughter), and Trunks go on a galactic adventure. It has some interesting ideas and introduces Super Saiyan 4, which is undeniably cool (and hairy), but it's often considered the weakest link.

Currently, the latest installment is the movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. While not a series, it continues the story of Dragon Ball Super and features a new animation style.
This movie puts Gohan and Piccolo in the spotlight as they battle the Red Ribbon Army's latest android creations. It's a fun, action-packed movie with some great character moments, especially for those two green guys.
