Watch Not Going Out Series 2 Episode 1

Is "Not Going Out" Series 2 Episode 1 Underrated Genius? (Maybe!)
Okay, confession time. I just re-watched Not Going Out Series 2 Episode 1. And you know what? I think it's secretly brilliant. Don't @ me!
Hear me out. Everyone always talks about later episodes. The ones with the elaborate set pieces and crazy stunts. But this one is pure, unadulterated Lee Mack gold.
The "Lost Luggage" Plot
The entire episode revolves around lost luggage. Sounds boring, right? Wrong! It's a masterclass in escalating awkwardness. Only Lee could turn misplaced suitcases into comedic chaos.
Must Read
The way he lies to Lucy. The increasingly absurd explanations. It's all so wonderfully cringe-worthy. We've all been there, haven't we? (Maybe not with the luggage, but definitely with the lying!).
It starts with a small fib. A tiny white lie. Then BAM! A mountain of deceit. It's a classic sitcom trope, but Not Going Out does it so well.
Tim Vine: The King of One-Liners
Let's not forget Tim Vine as Tim! His rapid-fire puns are legendary. Seriously, the man is a comedic weapon. Every scene he's in is a laugh riot.

His deadpan delivery makes it even funnier. He just throws those one-liners out there. It's like he's allergic to silence. A true national treasure.
I know some people find his style grating. But I think it's perfect for the show. It adds a layer of chaotic energy. What's not to love?
Lucy and Lee: The Perfect Odd Couple
The dynamic between Lucy and Lee is key. Their bickering is hilarious. Their (obvious) chemistry is undeniable.

Sally Bretton is fantastic as Lucy. She's the perfect foil to Lee's chaotic energy. She's smart, sarcastic, and totally exasperated.
You can see why they’re drawn to each other. Even though they drive each other crazy. It’s a love-hate relationship we can all relate to. Right?
Why This Episode Works
It's the simplicity, I think. No crazy explosions. No elaborate costumes. Just good writing and great performances.

The humour is relatable. The characters are believable (sort of!). It's a reminder that sometimes, the best comedy is the most grounded.
It’s a pure comedic gem. It's well-written, well-acted, and genuinely funny. What more could you want?
My (Slightly Unpopular) Opinion
Okay, here it is. I think this episode is funnier than some of the later, more hyped episodes. There, I said it!

It's pure, unadulterated comedy. No frills, no fuss. Just Lee Mack being Lee Mack at his best. It’s peak British sitcom at its finest.
Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I'm just nostalgic. But I stand by my opinion. "Not Going Out" Series 2 Episode 1 is a hidden gem. Go watch it again and tell me I'm wrong (but be nice!).
So, next time you're looking for a laugh. Give this episode a try. You might just find yourself agreeing with me. Or, you might not. Either way, you'll probably chuckle.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch it again. Because, you know, research.
