Season 17's first Golden Buzzer went to Avery Dixon. He's a young saxophonist with a powerful story.

And boy, can he play that sax! He really belted out a beautiful and mesmerizing performance.
My (Possibly Unpopular) Opinion
Here's the thing: I wasn't completely blown away. I know, I know. Prepare the tomatoes!
Don't get me wrong, Avery is talented. The kid's got serious skills.
But did it warrant a Golden Buzzer? That's where I'm a little unsure.
The Golden Buzzer Hype
Golden Buzzers are supposed to be reserved for truly exceptional acts. They need that special "wow" factor.
Something that makes you leap out of your seat! Something so good, you know they're going all the way.
Maybe it's just me. But I feel like sometimes the backstories overshadow the actual talent.
The Power of a Good Story
Look, I'm not saying his story isn't moving. It really is.
It's great he overcame adversity through music! It's a message we should teach our kids.
But should a sob story push someone straight to the live shows?
Other Talented Contestants
There are so many talented people that deserve that spotlight too!
What about the amazing singers? The death-defying acrobats?
They need a chance too! They practiced so hard for this moment.
It's Just the Beginning
Thankfully, this is only the first Golden Buzzer! There's plenty more talent to come.
Maybe I'm being too harsh on Avery. Perhaps he’ll really shine during the live shows.
Maybe he'll prove me wrong. I would love to eat my words!
