To Your Eternity Season 1 Episode 1

Okay, let's talk about To Your Eternity, episode one. I know, I know, it's a classic. But can we all admit something? It's... slow. Like, glacier slow.
Don't get me wrong, the premise is cool. A mysterious orb, endless forms, immortal being. All that good stuff. But wow, does it take its sweet time getting there.
I'm probably gonna get hate for this. But someone's gotta say it.
Must Read
The Rock Era: A Riveting Tale?
The first act? Literally a rock. A rock doing... nothing. Okay, it is slowly absorbing information from its surroundings. But still. A rock.
We spend, like, ten minutes watching a rock. Admiring its texture, I guess? Feeling its stony angst? I'm not sure what I was supposed to be feeling.
And then the moss! Oh, the excitement of moss!

My Bold Prediction (That Probably Won't Happen)
I'm half expecting a spin-off. To Your Eternity: Pocco's Origin Story. Focusing solely on the rock's early life.
Maybe we'll see him dating other rocks? Going to rock concerts? Okay, I'll stop.
The Boy and the Dog: Now We're Talking (Sort Of)
Finally, the orb becomes a wolf! Progress! Then, a boy. A lonely, optimistic boy named, er, well, he's just "Boy."
He's waiting for everyone to return to his village. Bless his heart. But spoiler alert: They're not coming back.

His loyal companion, Joaan, is a good boy, though. Deserves all the head scratches.
The Stakes are... Low?
The boy's determination is admirable. But something feels... off. The show tries to make you feel sad. It really does.
It throws starving kids, frozen landscapes, and cute doggies at you. But I'm just not fully emotionally invested yet! Maybe I'm heartless.

I want to care. I swear! But the pacing makes it hard.
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Is it wrong to want something to happen? Other than slowly trudging through the snow?
Maybe I'm too used to anime that throws explosions and screaming teenagers at you every five seconds. But a little action wouldn't hurt.
I felt like I needed a cup of coffee just to stay awake.
"Wow, I'm getting emotional about a rock,"said no one, ever. Well, almost no one.

Worth Sticking Around For?
Despite my gripes, I'm not giving up on To Your Eternity. The potential is there. The animation is beautiful, after all.
I'm hoping the story picks up. And that the orb-thing starts doing more interesting stuff than transforming into inanimate objects. Please.
Plus, I heard later episodes are tear-jerkers. Maybe I will become emotionally invested, after all. Wish me luck!
Maybe I'll even write a fanfic about Pocco the rock. Don't tempt me.
