This Is Us I Don't Have A Mom Anymore

Okay, folks, let's get real for a sec. I'm about to say something potentially controversial. Prepare yourselves.
Ready? Here it comes:
I'm kind of over Rebecca Pearson. There, I said it.
Must Read
"This Is Us" Without The Mom? Gasp!
I know, I know. She's the matriarch. The glue. The freaking saint! But hear me out.
The show was called "This Is Us." Not "This Is Rebecca." Big difference, right?
And honestly, once her character started declining, I felt... liberated? Maybe that's harsh.
Early Rebecca: Love Her
Look, I loved young Rebecca. The singer with the big dreams. The supportive wife.

She was funny and relatable. Even with all that 70s fashion.
She and Jack were the ultimate couple goals (before, you know... the slow cooker incident. We don't talk about that!).
The Later Years: A Little... Much?
But as the show went on, things shifted. She became almost too perfect.
Everything revolved around her. Every problem traced back to her choices, her feelings.

It started to feel like Rebecca was less a character and more a plot device. To move the stories of her children forward.
The Kids Need Room to Breathe!
And what about the Big Three? Kate, Kevin, and Randall are amazing!
They have complex lives and problems of their own. Did they need every single issue to link back to their mom?
I'm not so sure. Sometimes, it felt like their individual growth was stunted.
Unpopular Opinion: It's Okay to Move On
Maybe I'm just a heartless monster. Maybe I don't appreciate the beauty of familial bonds.

But I think "This Is Us" could have thrived even with a slightly smaller Rebecca presence.
Imagine more storylines focusing on Randall's political career, or Kevin's struggles with addiction, or Kate finding her voice.
Let's Face It: We All Have Our Own Stories
The show is about the human experience, right?
And part of that experience is moving on, even from the people we love most.

Rebecca will always be part of their story, but it's not just her story. That is all.
Don't Hate Me!
So, there you have it. My slightly sacrilegious "This Is Us" confession.
Feel free to disagree with me. I'm ready for the backlash.
But maybe, just maybe, you secretly agree. And maybe it would have helped to expand upon the characters.
But most importantly, it helped to flesh out and provide a solid backstory for the main characters.
And if so, let's unite in our shared, slightly controversial opinion! It is okay to see our favorite shows from a different perspective.
