The Last Episode Of The King Of Queens

Okay, let's talk about something important. Something that kept us laughing for nine seasons. I'm talking about The King of Queens, obviously!
Specifically, I want to chat about the finale. Buckle up, because I have some thoughts.
The Big Decision
Remember how Doug and Carrie were trying to adopt a baby from China? Classic King of Queens shenanigans. Then, surprise! Carrie found out she was pregnant.
Must Read
A double dose of parenthood was looming. A baby girl from China and a baby boy on the way. Talk about overwhelming!
They had to decide: China or no China? This was the crux of the whole episode. I get it. Big life decision and all.
Unpopular Opinion Alert!
Here it comes… I wasn't thrilled with their final choice. Maybe I'm heartless. Maybe I'm just a weirdo. But hear me out!
They decided to go ahead with both adoptions. Baby Mei-Ling arrives from China. Then comes little Arthur, their biological son.

Seemed like a happy ending, right? Doug and Carrie got their family. Everyone's happy!
But did it truly feel earned?
I always felt like they should have chosen just one. Maybe adopt the baby from China. Maybe focus on being first time parents.
Why I Have Doubts
It felt a little too "perfect" and convenient. Almost like the writers were afraid to make a bold choice. Afraid of upsetting anyone.
The show was always funny because of the relatability! Doug and Carrie’s struggles felt real. But this felt...manufactured.

Think about their apartment! Suddenly, there's magically enough space? Where did they store all the baby stuff? Seems unlikely.
The Arthur Factor
And what about Arthur? He's a major character! Always causing chaos. Did he suddenly become quiet and helpful?
The finale skipped ahead. We didn't see the transition. We didn't see him adjust. That felt like a missed opportunity.
He's arguably the heart and soul of much of the show's humor! To sideline him felt wrong.

Don't get me wrong. I love Jerry Stiller as Arthur. He always cracks me up.
What Could Have Been
Imagine the storyline if they didn't adopt from China. Imagine the struggles of first-time parents. Imagine the hilarious arguments!
Or, what if they adopted Mei-Ling but didn't have a baby of their own? The show could have explored the challenges of international adoption.
Either of those directions would have been interesting. It would have felt more like the King of Queens that I knew and loved.
Maybe I'm alone in this thinking. Maybe everyone else loved the ending. That's totally fine!

But for me, the finale was a little too neat. A little too easy. It lacked the messy, relatable charm of the rest of the show.
Final Thoughts
The King of Queens will always be one of my favorite sitcoms. It's got great characters. Hilarious situations. And plenty of heart.
But that finale? Eh, not my favorite. I prefer the earlier seasons. The ones with simpler plots and more realistic problems.
So, what do you think? Am I crazy? Or do you secretly agree with me? Let me know!
Discuss!
