Thirteen Episodes: Too Much of a Good (ish) Thing?

Thirteen episodes sounds reasonable, right? Standard for a network drama back then. But hear me out.

Did it feel… long? Like, really long? I'm just asking!

The Case That Wouldn’t End

Sarah Linden, our perpetually damp detective, and Stephen Holder, the surprisingly insightful loose cannon, were great. Their chemistry was undeniable, even if they were both incredibly flawed.

But the Rosie Larsen case? It just kept twisting and turning. Remember all the red herrings?

Seriously, every single character was a suspect at some point. My brain felt like it was stuck in a permanent state of "whodunnit?"

Unpopular Opinion Alert!

Here it comes... I think The Killing Season 1 could have been tighter. Fewer episodes, more focused plot. There, I said it!

Maybe cut it down to, say, eight or ten episodes? Imagine how much more impactful those key scenes would have been.

We could have avoided some of the plot filler and those moments where you just wanted to yell at the TV, "JUST ARREST SOMEONE ALREADY!"

The Power of Brevity?

Look, I appreciate a good slow burn. But The Killing sometimes felt like it was simmering on low for way too long.

Think about shows like Sherlock. Only a few episodes per season, but each one is a masterpiece of storytelling. Quality over quantity, right?

Maybe The Killing could have taken a page from that book.

Was It Worth It?

Despite my mini-rant, I did enjoy The Killing. The atmosphere was incredible.

The Pacific Northwest setting, the constant rain, the general feeling of gloom... it all added to the suspense. And the acting was top-notch, especially Mireille Enos as Linden.

Joel Kinnaman as Holder was also a revelation. He brought a certain chaotic energy to the role that was both hilarious and compelling. But a little less rain would have been appreciated!

So, What’s the Verdict?

Thirteen episodes. Maybe too many, maybe not. It's subjective, really.

But if you're planning a re-watch, maybe consider skipping a few of the less essential episodes. Just a suggestion!
