The Irregular At Magic High School Ep 1

Okay, let's talk The Irregular at Magic High School. Specifically, episode 1. Buckle up, because I might have some... opinions.
First impressions? So. Much. Explanation. It's like they’re determined to teach you magic instead of just, you know, showing it.
We meet Tatsuya Shiba. Our stoic, overpowered, and strangely detached protagonist. Is it just me, or does he seem a little... bored? Maybe magic high school isn't his cup of tea.
Must Read
Enter Miyuki, the Perfect Sister
Then there’s Miyuki. The perfect, beautiful, ridiculously talented sister. Seriously, she's practically glowing. I wonder if she ever has a bad hair day.
Their arrival at First High is dramatic. The whole “Weed” versus “Bloom” student division seems a bit harsh, doesn't it? Talk about high school cliques.
Tatsuya, of course, gets stuck in the “Weed” section. Because apparently, being a genius engineer doesn’t translate to practical magic skills. Go figure.

The Magic System: Complicated or Confusing?
Let's be honest, the magic system is… dense. CADs, Psions, activation sequences. My brain started to hurt a little.
Did anyone else get completely lost in the explanations? It felt like taking a magic class taught by a particularly enthusiastic, but slightly rambling, professor.
Maybe it gets clearer later. But episode one throws a LOT at you. It felt like drinking from a firehose filled with magical jargon.
Overpowered Protagonist Alert!
Tatsuya might be a “Weed”, but we all know he’s secretly a magical god. That’s practically anime law at this point.

He's already displaying some seriously impressive abilities. Like, erasing magic sequences with his bare hands impressive. Show off.
It’s pretty clear he's holding back. And that he's going to be ridiculously powerful later on. The classic overpowered protagonist trope!
Unpopular Opinion Time!
Here's where things might get a little controversial. I wasn't completely hooked by episode one.

There, I said it. I found it a little slow and exposition-heavy. It felt more like a setup than an actual story.
I know, I know, everyone loves The Irregular at Magic High School. But the first episode didn't immediately grab me. Don't hate me!
Will I Keep Watching?
Despite my mild reservations, I’m still curious. I want to see what Tatsuya is hiding. And whether the magic system eventually makes sense.
Maybe I'll come to love it. Maybe I'll remain unconvinced. Only time will tell. I’m willing to give it a few more episodes.

But honestly, I'm mostly in it for the inevitable over-the-top magical battles. Bring on the explosions!
Final Thoughts
So, that’s my take on The Irregular at Magic High School, episode one. A bit clunky, a bit slow, but with a lot of potential.
What do you think? Am I being too harsh? Or did you also find the first episode a little underwhelming?
Let me know in the comments! And please, be gentle. I'm just a humble anime watcher sharing my (possibly) unpopular opinions.
