The Handmaid's Tale Season 4 Episode 3 Recap

The Handmaid's Tale: Did Anyone Else Think Episode 3 Was...Kinda Good? (Unpopular Opinion Alert!)
Okay, hear me out. Everyone's always complaining about The Handmaid's Tale being relentlessly depressing. And yeah, it is. But Episode 3 of Season 4? I actually… enjoyed it? Dare I say, it had some fun?
We find June in that abandoned school. Surrounded by kids who look like they haven't slept in weeks. Real charming start, right?
The Kids are Alright (Maybe?)
Those kids were definitely traumatized. But they also had some fire! Sneaking cigarettes, giving June sass? I was almost rooting for them.
Must Read
Maybe it's just me. But watching June navigate those tricky little rebels was way more engaging than another scene of her staring mournfully into the abyss. Okay, she did a little staring. But it was purposeful staring!
Then there's the whole "saving the kids" plot. Classic Handmaid's Tale stuff, sure. But the stakes felt higher somehow. It wasn't just about escaping Gilead. It was about protecting a whole generation.
Aunt Lydia: Still the Worst (But Intrigued?)
And let's talk about Aunt Lydia. Still as terrifying as ever. Still obsessed with June. It's like a twisted, power-hungry love story.

Did anyone else notice that little flicker of… something… in her eyes when she was talking about June? Was it respect? Fear? A weird form of maternal pride? Probably all of the above.
She's the villain we all love to hate. But man, is she complex! You almost (almost!) feel sorry for her sometimes. Almost.
The Great Escape (Kind Of)
The escape plan itself? A little convoluted, maybe. But the tension! I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Which is exactly what The Handmaid's Tale is supposed to do, right?

And the snowy landscape! Visually stunning, even amidst all the horror. Gilead might be terrible, but it has some pretty scenery.
Okay, so not all the kids made it. Brutal. Heartbreaking. Par for the course. But the ones who did? Heading to Canada? That’s some hope, baby!
June's "Rebellious" Streak (I'm Here For It)
June is basically a one-woman resistance force at this point. And while her recklessness can be frustrating, it's also kind of inspiring.

She's learned to weaponize her experiences. To use Gilead's own tactics against them. It's dark, but it's also...satisfying.
And let's be honest, watching her outsmart the Commanders and Aunts is always a guilty pleasure. Like, "Yeah, June! You tell 'em!"
Maybe It's Just Me...
I know, I know. The Handmaid's Tale is supposed to be bleak and soul-crushing. And it is! But Episode 3 felt like a glimmer of something else. A hint of resilience. A spark of hope.

Maybe I'm just a hopeless optimist. Or maybe I'm just desperate for something, anything, to lighten the mood in Gilead. Whatever the reason, I thought Episode 3 was a solid installment. Sue me!
So, am I alone in this? Or did anyone else find themselves...enjoying... The Handmaid's Tale this week? Let me know in the comments!
Unpopular Opinion: Season 4 Episode 3 of The Handmaid's Tale was actually pretty good! Don't @ me.
