The Case of Bartholomew Buttercup, Guild Fluffer

Every adventuring guild has one. You know the guy (or gal). The one who brings...well, nothing much to the table. I'm talking about the Bartholomew Buttercups of the world.

Bartholomew, bless his heart, is our guild's designated "Fluffer." Yes, you read that right. His job? To fluff things.

Specifically, he fluffs cushions, morale, and (occasionally) the feathers of our griffon, Gerald. It sounds lovely, doesn't it?

The Allure of the Fluffer

Now, some might say, "Hey! Morale is important!" And sure, a positive attitude is great before facing a dragon. But is it worth half a share of the dragon's hoard?

I remain unconvinced. Bartholomew's skills seem... less than crucial during, say, a goblin ambush. He mostly hides behind me, yelling encouraging things about my sword arm.

Which, I appreciate the support, really. But perhaps a well-aimed rock would be more effective?

Is Fluffing Actually Worthless?

Okay, okay, I'm being harsh. Bartholomew does have his moments. Like that time he fluffed Gerald's feathers just right, and Gerald actually let me ride him without complaint.

Usually, Gerald tries to eat my helmet. So, points to Bartholomew! Perhaps there's more to fluffing than meets the eye.

Maybe he secretly possesses powerful, unseen magic? Maybe all that fluffing is subtly altering the fabric of reality? Maybe I'm just delirious from lack of sleep after that troll incident.

The Guild's Unspoken Truth

Let's be honest, though. We keep Bartholomew around because he's genuinely a nice guy. He brings homemade cookies (fluffed with extra love, I assume). And he never complains about cleaning the latrines.

Plus, no one wants to be the one to tell him his skills are... less than optimal. It would just be awkward.

So, Bartholomew Buttercup remains our Fluffer. A constant reminder that not all contributions are measured in gold or slain monsters.

Unpopular Opinion Time

Here's my unpopular opinion: most guilds have a Bartholomew. Someone whose skill set is... niche. A Bard who only plays polka. A potion-maker who specializes in glitter bombs. You know the type.

They're not bad people. They're just... creatively employed.

And secretly, we wouldn't trade them for the world. Or, well, maybe a slightly larger share of the dragon's hoard. But that's just between you and me.

The Future of Fluffing

Maybe one day, fluffing will be recognized as the vital art it truly is. Maybe Bartholomew will lead us to a hidden treasure using his superior cushion-arranging abilities.

Until then, he'll keep fluffing. And we'll keep smiling (and secretly hoping he learns how to throw a decent rock).
