The Good Doctor Season 1 Episode 1 Watch

Okay, let's talk about The Good Doctor. Specifically, that very first episode. You know, Season 1, Episode 1. Remember when we all first met Shaun Murphy?
I'm going to be honest. I have a confession. It's a bit…controversial.
A Bold Admission
I didn't love it. Gasp! I know, I know. Hear me out.
Must Read
Everyone was raving. "Oh, it's so touching! So inspiring!" And yes, Freddie Highmore is amazing. No arguments there.
The Airport Scene: A Little Too Much?
But that airport scene? The luggage cart crashing? The kid getting hurt? All a bit much, right?
It felt…stagey. Like they were trying too hard to show how brilliant Dr. Murphy is.
I mean, sure, doctors save lives. That's their job. But the whole "instant hero" thing felt a little forced.

Don't Get Me Wrong...
I’m not saying the episode was bad. It just wasn’t the immediate, overwhelming "best thing ever" for me.
The dialogue felt a bit clunky in places. Like they were explaining things to the audience instead of letting us figure it out.
And the hospital board scenes? So dramatic! Everyone looked constantly worried.
The Boardroom Battle
Dr. Glassman fighting for Shaun? Sweet. But also…predictable.
We knew he was going to win. We knew Shaun Murphy was going to get the job.

There wasn’t much suspense for me in those initial moments of introduction to the characters.
I Still Watched (And Continued To Watch!)
Here’s the thing: I kept watching. I actually really enjoyed the rest of the season.
Maybe it was the character development. Maybe it was the medical mysteries. Or maybe it was just Freddie Highmore’s incredible performance.
Whatever it was, I got hooked. So clearly, the show did something right.

My Unpopular Opinion on Shaun's Backstory
Shaun’s backstory is heartbreaking. Absolutely. But did they really need to show every terrible thing that ever happened to him in the first episode?
It felt a little like emotional overload. Like they were trying to tug at our heartstrings too hard.
I mean, we get it. He's been through a lot. A little subtlety wouldn't have hurt.
Guilty Pleasure Confessions
Despite my initial reservations, I became invested. I cared about Dr. Shaun Murphy and his journey.
I rooted for him to succeed. I wanted him to prove everyone wrong.

So maybe Season 1, Episode 1 wasn't perfect. But it was the start of something special.
Am I Alone?
Does anyone else feel this way? Or am I the only one who wasn't completely blown away by the first episode?
Let me know your thoughts! Maybe you can change my mind.
Or maybe you agree. Either way, it’s fun to talk about. After all, that first watch of The Good Doctor, with young Dr. Murphy, was quite memorable!
