The Case Study Of Vanitas Volume 3

Okay, people. Let's talk Vanitas no Carte Volume 3. Specifically, my slightly controversial thoughts. Prepare for potential disagreement!
Welcome to the Asylum! Sort Of...
This volume dives deep into the Parisian catacombs. Think less romantic stroll, more creepy underground shenanigans. It's all thanks to Doctor Moreau.
He's back, and even more unsettling than before. Turns out, he’s got a bit of a… hobby. A very, very ethically questionable hobby.
Must Read
Jeanne's Not-So-Secret Life
Jeanne gets a lot of focus here. We see her past, her struggles, her inner turmoil. It's heavy stuff.
But honestly? I was a little bored. Maybe it's just me, but her backstory felt... slow.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate character development! Just wish it had a bit more zing!

The Beast of Gévaudan
Okay, THIS is where things picked up! The introduction of the Beast of Gévaudan. A truly horrifying creature.
The mystery surrounding it? Top-notch. The action sequences? Exhilarating! Finally, some momentum!
I felt like I was finally getting somewhere. Vanitas and Noé were doing the investigating thing! It was awesome.
My Unpopular Opinion?
Here it comes, brace yourselves. I think this is the weakest volume so far. Gasp!

I know, I know! People love the Jeanne stuff. I get it. But it just didn’t quite grab me.
Maybe I just wanted more of the crazy plot twists. Or maybe I needed a bigger dose of Vanitas being a chaotic gremlin. Who knows?
Vanitas and Noé’s Dynamic (Still Awesome)
Even in a less-than-perfect volume, their relationship shines. The banter, the underlying tension, the genuine care? Chef's kiss!

Noé's loyalty is heartwarming. And Vanitas, despite his facade, clearly values him too. It's all very precious.
Their interactions are what keep me hooked. They are truly the best part of the series.
The Cliffhanger!
Of course, just when you think things are settling down, BAM! Cliffhanger of epic proportions.
Something HUGE is brewing. Involving the Beast of Gévaudan. And a whole lot of potentially devastating consequences.

Now I'm invested again! Darn it, Vanitas! You got me!
Final Thoughts
Volume 3 wasn't my favorite. But it definitely wasn't bad. It just felt like a slight dip in quality compared to the others.
The promise of what's to come? Absolutely tantalizing. I'm eagerly awaiting volume 4. Bring on the chaos!
So, what did you think of volume 3? Am I totally off base? Let me know!
