That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Volume 1

Okay, let's be real. Who hasn't dreamed of getting isekai'd? Specifically, getting reincarnated as something totally overpowered? I know I have.
And then I read That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Vol. 1. A slime. Seriously?
So, Slime Life, Huh?
Our hero, previously some average dude named Satoru Mikami, gets stabbed. Not the most glamorous exit. Suddenly, he's... a blob. A blue, gelatinous blob.
Must Read
He's in a cave. Dark, damp, and full of... stuff. And a dragon! A real, actual, honest-to-goodness dragon.
This is where things get weird. And surprisingly heartwarming. This is the start of Rimuru Tempest's adventure.
Unpopular Opinion Incoming
Alright, I'm gonna say it. I wasn't initially sold on the slime thing. I mean, a sword? A mighty warrior? A cool mage? Yes, please!
But a slime? It seemed... underwhelming. Plus, the whole "Great Sage" skill felt a little too convenient.
Yet, the more I read, the more I got hooked. Rimuru's reactions are hilarious. He's constantly surprised by his own abilities.
And let's not forget Veldora, the Storm Dragon. He's basically a giant, grumpy house cat trapped in a dragon's body.
The Cave and Its Contents
Seriously, that cave is a treasure trove. Magical herbs, high-quality ore, and a super powerful dragon! What more could a slime ask for?
The whole predator skill is pretty awesome too. Eating things and gaining their abilities? Sign me up! (Although, maybe not other people...)

Rimuru's friendship with Veldora is honestly the best part. It's a classic "odd couple" dynamic with a fantastical twist.
Maybe Slimes Aren't So Bad?
Okay, okay, I admit it. Rimuru grew on me. He's not just some overpowered blob.
He's trying his best to figure out this whole new world thing. He’s compassionate, even when he’s facing down terrifying monsters.
And he’s surprisingly good at making friends! Even if those friends are giant spiders and lizard men.

From Zero to Hero (Blob)
The first volume is really about setting the stage. Rimuru goes from clueless slime to village leader. It’s a quick turnaround, but it works.
He uses his powers to help others. He eats things and gains abilities (still weird). And he generally tries to be a decent slime-being.
It's this genuine desire to help that makes him so likeable. Even if he does spend a lot of time internally monologuing.
Final Thoughts (and Maybe Another Unpopular Opinion)
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Vol. 1 is a fun read. It's not the deepest or most complex story, but it's entertaining.

Is it a masterpiece? Probably not. Did I enjoy it more than I thought I would? Absolutely.
Maybe being a slime isn't so bad after all. Especially if you have a Great Sage skill and a dragon for a best friend.
And you know what? I might even prefer it over some of those "edgy" isekai stories where everyone's a grimdark anti-hero. Just saying.
So, yeah. Give the slime a chance. You might be surprised.
