That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime Manga

Okay, folks, let's talk slime. Not the gooey stuff your kids leave on the carpet. I'm talking about That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. You know, the manga (and anime) everyone and their grandma seems to love.
It's about a guy, Satoru, who gets stabbed. Classic isekai start, right? Then, BAM! He wakes up as a blob. A very powerful, very adaptable slime. And, dare I say, a surprisingly charismatic one.
Slime Power! Or, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Blob
Rimuru Tempest, the slime-turned-hero, is supposed to be this super-strong, world-changing figure. And, yeah, he kind of is. He builds a whole nation! That's pretty impressive for a former office worker.
Must Read
He's got Great Sage, his inner AI, helping him out. It's like having Google in your head, but way more sassy. Who wouldn't want that?
But here's my unpopular opinion: is he really all that compelling? Hear me out!

Rimuru's Charm: Overrated or Underrated?
Everyone raves about Rimuru. He's kind. He's powerful. He's… a bit bland? He always makes the right choices. He never seems to truly struggle.
Maybe I'm just a sucker for flawed characters. Give me a hero who messes up sometimes! Someone who has to learn from their mistakes! Rimuru feels a little too perfect, like a Mary Sue but in slime form.
Don't get me wrong; I enjoy the series. The world-building is fantastic. The supporting characters are great! I particularly love Shion and her… unique cooking skills.

But Rimuru himself? He's almost like a passive observer in his own story. Things just seem to fall into place for him a bit too easily.
The Supporting Cast: Stealing the Show
Honestly, the real stars are everyone around Rimuru. Gobta, the lovable goblin. Benimaru, the loyal Kijin. Even Milim Nava, the chaotic dragonoid, is more interesting to watch.
They have their own personalities, their own flaws, their own motivations. They grow and change throughout the series. Rimuru? He mostly just absorbs more skills and gets stronger.

Maybe that's the point? He's a catalyst. He brings out the best in everyone else. But I still wish he had a bit more… grit.
Is Slime Still Worth the Watch (or Read)?
Absolutely! That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a fun, engaging series. The world is imaginative, the battles are exciting, and the humor is spot-on.
But if you're going into it expecting a deeply complex protagonist, you might be disappointed. Rimuru is enjoyable, but he's not the reason I keep coming back for more.

I'm here for the world, the side characters, and the sheer absurdity of it all. Plus, who doesn't love a good power fantasy where the underdog (or underslime) wins? I do. And I do love the world build around Rimuru. But let’s be honest, I just think there are more charismatic isekai protagonists.
So, yeah, I said it. Rimuru Tempest: a slightly overrated protagonist in an otherwise fantastic series. Don't @ me!
And, seriously, someone needs to hide Shion's cooking supplies. For the sake of everyone's stomachs.
