South Park Season 25 Episode 3 Hbo Max

South Park Season 25 Episode 3 Hbo Max

Okay, Let's Talk South Park Season 25 Episode 3 on HBO Max

So, everyone seems to be obsessed with the latest season of South Park. But did anyone else feel a little...underwhelmed by episode 3? I know, I know, blasphemy!

I’m talking about “City People”. Don't get me wrong, there were some funny moments. Like, really funny moments. But overall, something felt a bit off.

The Setup Was Promising...

The premise was gold. Cartman, living in a hot dog stand. Randy becoming a real estate tycoon. It had all the ingredients for a classic South Park episode.

Randy especially had that South Park chaotic energy. He really sold that trying to be a successful real estate salesman.

The whole South Park becoming gentrified was funny. Especially seeing how it was effecting the town. It had a great setup.

But Did It Stick the Landing?

Here's where my unpopular opinion comes in. The episode kind of meandered. It felt like it was missing that sharp, satirical punch we expect from South Park.

Maybe I'm expecting too much. South Park has been around forever. It's hard to constantly reinvent the wheel. But still...

The plot about the houses had a good start. The houses being built in the park, was a great idea. However, did the plot do what it could have? No.

Cartman's Hot Dog Stand Shenanigans

Cartman, bless his evil little heart, always delivers. His commitment to his hot dog stand dream was hilarious. And his sheer determination to scam everyone he can!

Seeing Cartman adapt to be a hot dog vendor was funny. Plus, seeing how much he hated his house was great.

Although, did anyone else feel it lacked that punch? Cartman felt watered down and not the full evil we all know and love!

Randy Marsh: Real Estate Mogul?

Randy trying to become a real estate bigwig had moments. But also felt rushed. There was so much potential there. I really wanted to see him fail even more spectacularly!

Randy is usually gold in most episodes. His antics are always super funny. And always get a laugh out of everyone.

But even he wasn’t enough to pull this episode up to the level of South Park greatness, at least for me. He had funny moments, but nothing that made him the episode's center.

Where Was the Social Commentary?

South Park is famous for its timely and often controversial social commentary. "City People" touched on gentrification, sure. But it felt superficial.

I missed the biting satire. The clever observations. The stuff that makes you think, even as you're laughing your head off.

The ending especially felt lackluster. South Park's ending usually have big laughs. But this one was lacking.

Maybe I'm Just Being Picky

Look, I love South Park. I've been watching it for years. Maybe I'm just holding it to an unfairly high standard.

Maybe after all these years, it's hard to surprise me. Maybe I'm just jaded.

But I just feel like "City People" was a decent episode of TV. But not a great episode of South Park. Anyone else agree? Or am I alone on this hot dog stand?
