Some Kind Of Heaven Where Are They Now

Okay, let's be honest. Who hasn't dreamt of retiring in a sunny paradise? Maybe golfing every day? Or learning to paint sunsets?
Some Kind of Heaven showed us one version of that dream. It's a retirement community in Florida, The Villages. But what happened to those folks after the cameras stopped rolling?
The Villages: Post-Documentary Life
Let’s dive in! I've done some digging. And I have some... thoughts.
Must Read
Reggie and Anne Kincer: Still Searching?
Remember Reggie Kincer and his wife Anne? He was trying to find happiness within The Villages' endless activities. Anne was… less enthused. I always felt for her.
Reports suggest they are still residing in The Villages. But, I'm going to say it. Maybe they needed couple’s therapy, not synchronized swimming lessons. Just a thought!
Seriously though, I hope they've found a better balance. Marriage is tough, even in paradise.

Barbara Lochiatto: Love Found (Again?)
Ah, Barbara Lochiatto, the eternally optimistic divorcée! She was on the hunt for a new man.
Good news! Rumor has it she's found companionship. Apparently, The Villages does work as a dating pool! I love a happy ending. Especially when it involves ditching expectations.
Maybe finding love in your twilight years is easier than we think. You've already weeded out the time-wasters, right?
Dennis and Annette Check: The Ups and Downs
Then we had Dennis Check, struggling with addiction. And his supportive, but understandably worried, wife, Annette.

Their story was probably the most raw. Addiction is a beast, regardless of your age or location. I sincerely hope Dennis is doing better. I really do.
From what I can gather, they are still together. Which is a testament to Annette's strength and their commitment.
My Unpopular Opinion: Paradise Isn't a Place
Okay, here it comes. Brace yourselves. The Villages looked… kind of… boring to me.
Hear me out! Constant activities? Golf carts everywhere? It felt like manufactured fun. Don't get me wrong, I love a good shuffleboard game. But every. single. day?

"Happiness is not a state to arrive at, but a manner of traveling." - Margaret Lee Runbeck
I think that quote summarizes it perfectly! Maybe the problem wasn't where they were. Maybe it was what they expected from the place itself.
Maybe true paradise is finding contentment within yourself. No matter where you are. Even if it’s just your own backyard. With a slightly overgrown lawn.
Maybe it’s not about escaping your problems. But about facing them with a piña colada in hand. Or a cup of tea. Whatever works!

The residents of The Villages seemed to be searching for something. Something beyond manicured lawns and endless golf courses.
And honestly, aren't we all? Searching for that little slice of heaven? Mine involves comfy pajamas and a good book. No golf cart required.
Ultimately, I hope these folks are happy. Truly happy. Wherever they are. And whatever they're doing. Even if it is synchronized swimming.
I still think The Villages looks like a slightly surreal episode of The Twilight Zone, but hey, to each their own!
