Skeleton Knight In Another World Volume 9

Okay, let's talk Skeleton Knight in Another World Volume 9. We all read it. Or at least, pretended to at the water cooler.
I have some… thoughts. Maybe some controversial thoughts.
The Good Bits (Because We Gotta Be Fair)
First off, gotta give it to Ennki Hakari. The art is still fantastic. Seriously, those detailed skeletons? Inspiring!
Must Read
Also, the humor's still there. Arc is always stumbling into situations. It's like watching a well-meaning disaster in shining (or bony) armor.
The world-building continues to be interesting. New locations and new characters keep things fresh.
My Unpopular Opinion: Things That Made Me Go "Hmm"
Here's where things get dicey. And yes, I know I'm probably alone here.

Did anyone else feel like the plot felt a little… thin? Like spread too thin over too much bread? I mean, adventure is great, but I missed the deeper feeling in the previous volumes.
It felt like Arc was just reacting to stuff happening around him, rather than driving the story himself. Which is fine, I guess. Just not as engaging.
Character Development? Anyone?
And the characters. I love Ariane and Chiyome, truly. They're fun to watch.
But did they really… change? Grow? Or were they just kinda… there? Doing their usual awesome things, but without adding a new layer?

Maybe I'm asking too much of a light novel series. Maybe.
I think maybe Arc should learn more about himself. We have 9 books with him. And I still feel like I don't know his motivation.
The Action Scenes: More Is Not Always Better
Okay, the action scenes are always epic. Skeletons fighting monsters. Mages blasting spells.

But sometimes I felt like there was just… too much. Did every single fight really need to be a multi-chapter epic?
I'm a big fan of action, but it would be nice to take a breath once in a while. Some quite and introspective scenes would be good.
So, What's the Verdict?
Look, I still enjoyed Skeleton Knight in Another World Volume 9. It's a fun, lighthearted read.
But I also think it's not the strongest entry in the series. It could have been tighter. More focused. With maybe just a little more character development.

Maybe I'm just being overly critical. But hey, that's what makes fandom fun, right?
"It's still a fun read, but I hope the next volume brings back some of the depth I felt was missing."
Don't get me wrong. I'll still be first in line for Volume 10. I am curious where this goes.
But let's hope it brings back some of that magic that made me fall in love with Arc and his skeletal adventures in the first place!
