Okay, folks, let's talk about Attack on Titan. Specifically, Season 2, Episode 1. Ready for my hot take?
Season 2 Premier: A Slow Burn...Maybe Too Slow?
Don't get me wrong, I love Attack on Titan. But let's be real, the opening of Season 2 felt...a little sleepy. It's like the show was taking a nap after all that titan-slaying chaos from Season 1.
We spend a lot of time with Conny and Sasha. They're fun characters, sure. But where are the titans? Where's the action?!
The episode isn't entirely without its merits. The mystery surrounding the breached wall gets amped up. Who – or what – did it?
And that smiling titan? Creepy! It definitely hinted at something bigger, something sinister lurking beneath the surface. Still, gotta wade through a lot of farmland to get there.
Let's be honest, this episode leans heavily into world-building. We get more background on the smaller villages. But sometimes, I just want titans smashing stuff.

Am I the Only One Who Found It...Underwhelming?
I'm probably going to get roasted for this, but hear me out. All that build-up…did it really pay off in this particular episode?
Maybe it's just me. I need my adrenaline fix early! Season 1 spoiled me with constant titan attacks. Now I’m expecting titan-sized explosions every five minutes.
Is this episode necessary for the overall plot? Absolutely. Is it the most thrilling start to a season? Ehhh... debatable.

We see Ymir and Christa. That's always a win, right? Their dynamic is interesting. They offer some compelling character moments even amid the slower pace.
The Talking Titan: A Glimmer of Hope?
Okay, the talking titan thing was pretty cool. That's where things start to get interesting. It introduces a whole new level of WTF to the story.
It screamed "Father?" or something similar. It set off all the alarm bells in my head. What does this mean? Who is this titan? So many questions!

That moment alone saved the episode for me. Without it, I might have drifted off into a titan-induced slumber.
Final Verdict: A Slow Start, But Potential is There
So, Season 2, Episode 1 is not my favorite episode of Attack on Titan. At least, not at first viewing.
It's a slow burn. It relies heavily on set-up. It plants the seeds for future craziness.

However, it definitely picks up speed later on in the season! In retrospect, it might be one of those episodes that gets better on repeat viewings. The world is getting bigger. The mystery gets deeper.
Maybe I was just impatient. Maybe I was expecting too much. Either way, Attack on Titan still had me hooked. I was ready for the rollercoaster to begin.
What do you guys think? Am I being too harsh on Season 2, Episode 1? Let me know!
