Okay, let's talk about Shikimori's Not Just A Cutie episode 2. Some people loved it. I have... thoughts.

The Adorable Alarm Clock?

The episode kicks off with Shikimori as an alarm clock. Cute, right? Absolutely! But was it too cute? Maybe.

I'm not saying I didn't smile. I definitely did. I just wonder if they're leaning too hard into the "perfect girlfriend" trope.

Is Perfection Boring?

Hear me out! Imperfection is relatable. It's what makes characters interesting.

Shikimori is practically flawless. She's athletic, smart, kind, and utterly gorgeous. Where's the struggle? Where's the humanity?

I'm not saying she needs to trip over her own feet every five minutes. But a little flaw would make her more believable, wouldn't it?

Beach Shenanigans!

Then we hit the beach. Time for swimming, sun, and near-drowning experiences! Well, for Izumi anyway.

Of course, Shikimori saves the day. Again. It's becoming a pattern.

Izumi, bless his heart, is basically a walking disaster magnet. Does anyone else feel a little bad for him?

The Unpopular Opinion Zone

Okay, here's where I might lose some of you. The beach episode felt... predictable.

We knew Izumi would get into trouble. We knew Shikimori would be there to save him. Where's the suspense?

I'm not saying I wanted him to actually drown! Just... maybe a little more tension? A little less certainty?

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I'm starting to crave some character development outside of "Shikimori saves Izumi." Don't get me wrong, she's great, but what else is there?

The Supporting Cast

The friends are fun! They provide some much-needed comedic relief.

But even they feel a little one-dimensional. The energetic one, the quiet one, the observant one... We've seen it all before.

I'm hoping they'll get more depth as the series progresses. They have potential!

Overall Thoughts

Look, Shikimori's Not Just A Cutie is enjoyable. It's lighthearted and visually appealing.

But episode 2 felt a little...safe. It played it by the numbers.

I'm still hoping for more. More character development. More surprises. More something to set it apart from other rom-coms.

Maybe I'm being too critical. Maybe I'm expecting too much. But I think this show has the potential to be more than just cute.

It needs to embrace the unexpected. It needs to let its characters be flawed. It needs to take risks.
