Shaman King 2021: Whose Voice is THAT?! (A Totally Biased Look)

Okay, let's be real. The 2021 reboot of Shaman King was a wild ride. But did anyone else spend half the time trying to figure out who was voicing who?

I did. And I have opinions. Unpopular ones, maybe. But opinions nonetheless!

Yoh Asakura: Our Lazy Hero's Voice

First up, Yoh! In the Japanese version, Yoko Hikasa takes the reins. She nailed that chill, "I'll get to it later" vibe. I mean, seriously, who else could sound so unbothered while battling ghosts?

Now, the English dub? Abby Trott steps into the role. And honestly? Not bad! She captured the laid-back attitude well.

But... here's my controversial take: I sometimes missed the slightly deeper, more mature feel of the original Japanese voice. Don't @ me!

Anna Kyoyama: The Queen With The Slap

Anna. The itako with zero chill. The queen. In Japanese, Megumi Hayashibara reprises her role. A legend!.

In English? Erica Mendez. She nails the snark. Every line delivery felt like a potential slap to the face.

Honestly, I think both versions are perfect. You don't mess with perfection.

Manta Oyamada: Tiny But Mighty...Voiced

Our short, but incredibly loyal friend. Inuko Inuyama voiced him in Japanese. That high-pitched, slightly worried tone? Iconic!

And then we have Laura Stahl in the English dub. A good take. However, for some reason I keep imaging her voicing Naruto.

Anyone else get that vibe? Just me? Okay, moving on...

Ren Tao: The Edgy One

Okay, time for the edgelord. Ren Tao! In Japanese, Park Romi brings the intensity. You feel the rage with every word.

Oliver Le Sueur takes on the role in English. He definitely brings the attitude. But... (here comes another unpopular opinion)...

Sometimes, it felt a little too forced. Like, "I'm being edgy, see?" Maybe it's just me!

Horohoro: The Ainu Warrior With a Heart

Our ice-powered buddy! Yuji Ueda voices him in Japanese. A great choice.

For the English dub, Dan Green takes on the character. I have no complaint at all!

Of course, there are tons more characters and voice actors. But these were my main focus. Every voice actor in the show brought their A-game!

The 2021 Shaman King had an all-star cast. So many familiar faces! It was fun trying to pinpoint who was who.
