Confession time: I might have… an opinion. An opinion about Saezuru Tori Wa Habatakanai. Specifically, about Don't Stay Gold.

Hold on, don't throw tomatoes just yet! I'm not saying it's bad. Just... maybe a tad overrated? Maybe?

The Hype is Real...ish

I get it. Saezuru Tori is gorgeous. The animation is stunning. Yashiro is… complicated. We’re all drawn to complicated characters.

And Doumeki? Stoic. Loyal. Secretly a cinnamon roll. What’s not to love?

But Don't Stay Gold? It feels… different. Like that one slightly-off flavor in your favorite ice cream.

The Animation, the Feels, and… Something Missing

Visually, it’s a masterpiece. The snow scenes alone are worth a watch. They make you feel cold just looking at them!

The emotional weight? Present and accounted for. The angst is definitely palpable. Get the tissues ready.

However, the plot feels a bit… disjointed. The pacing is a little wonky. It kind of jumps around.

Unpopular Opinion Alert: The Plot Thickens (or Doesn't?)

Am I the only one who felt like some plot points were glossed over? A lot was introduced but never really brought up again. I felt like I was missing a scene or two.

Especially that whole Misumi situation. It added more drama than depth, in my humble view.

It felt like an attempt to rush the story to an end. I wanted more depth for some plots, but was ultimately let down.

The core of what makes Saezuru Tori great? That's still shining through. The complex relationship. The underlying tension.

But it's buried under a layer of… something. Perhaps an attempt to get through to the end.

Maybe this is just a case of impossibly high expectations. The original series is such a high point!

Don't Stay Gold: A Bit Too Much?

Let's be honest, Don't Stay Gold piles on the trauma. We get it. Yashiro has a rough past. So does Doumeki. Everyone's hurting!

But did we need more hurt? Couldn't they have just, you know, talked for five minutes?

Okay, okay, I know. That's not how stories work. But a girl can dream, right?

So, What's the Verdict?

Look, I'm not saying Don't Stay Gold is terrible. It's got gorgeous animation and heartbreaking moments. There is some definite charm there.

But compared to the main series? It doesn't quite hit the same. Something is missing.

Ultimately, it felt a bit… rushed. The potential of Saezuru Tori somehow not completely realized.

Maybe my expectations were too high. Or maybe, just maybe, it’s okay to admit that even great things can have their off moments.
