Okay, confession time. I watched the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2021 induction ceremony on HBO Max. And, dare I say it? I actually enjoyed parts of it!

The Good Stuff

Tina Turner! Need I say more? That woman is a force of nature. Her acceptance speech was pure class.

And Carole King! Seeing her inducted was a long time coming. "Tapestry" still slaps, even in 2024.

Unexpected Gems

I'll admit, I wasn't initially thrilled about the Foo Fighters induction. Don’t get me wrong, they rock. But did they deserve it this year? Debatable.

But! Dave Grohl's speech was surprisingly moving. He really gave it his all.

And Jay-Z! Okay, maybe rap isn’t exactly rock and roll. But his performance was undeniable.

The Head-Scratchers

Now, for the controversial part. Every year, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame makes some... interesting choices. I’m not saying anyone doesn’t deserve it.

But some feel... less rock and roll than others. You know?

It's like, did they just throw a dart at a list of musicians and hope for the best? Don’t @ me!

Unpopular Opinion Alert!

Here’s my potentially scandalous take. I think some of the inductions feel like they’re trying too hard to be inclusive. Which is great! Diversity is awesome!

But shouldn't the music be the primary criteria? Not just, you know, checking boxes?

The Performances

The performances were a mixed bag. Some were legendary. Others? Less so.

Did anyone else think Taylor Swift’s Carole King tribute felt a little... forced? I love Taylor! But maybe not the right fit.

Again, unpopular opinion. I'm basically asking for trouble at this point.

The Fashion Fails (and Wins!)

Let's be honest, the red carpet is half the fun. And there were some serious fashion moments.

Some were stunning. Others looked like they raided a costume shop. I won't name names... but you know who you are.

Seriously, please hire a stylist next time. For the love of rock and roll!

Final Thoughts

Overall, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2021 on HBO Max was entertaining. It was a bit long, a bit predictable, and a bit questionable in its choices. But isn't that what makes it fun?

It sparked debate! It made me question my musical tastes. And it reminded me of the power of music to bring people together (and sometimes, tear them apart!).

So, was it perfect? No. But was it worth watching? Absolutely. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go listen to some Tina Turner and contemplate the meaning of rock and roll. And maybe hide from the Taylor Swift stans.
