The kid, Jesse Wilson, is actually kind of endearing. He's not some super-tough action hero. He’s just a normal kid trying to survive a zombie apocalypse. With his dog Rondo.
Plus, the special effects are delightfully cheesy. In a good way! Practical effects are the best effects. Even if they look a little... rubbery.
Remember the zombie in the cement? Classic.
More Than Just a Sequel
Look, nobody’s arguing it’s high art. This isn't Bergman.
But it does something really well: it knows what it is. A goofy, gory, zombie romp.
It doesn't try to be profound or make some grand statement. It just wants you to have a good time. And eat brains... vicariously.

They play completely different characters. But it's still great to see them hamming it up. Seriously. These guys are brilliant.
