Resident Evil Welcome To Raccoon City Imax

Okay, hear me out. Remember Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City? The movie that promised to be a true adaptation of the games? It hit theaters back in 2021.
My (Slightly) Unpopular Opinion: IMAX Made It Better
Now, before you grab your pitchforks, let me explain. I know, I know. The movie wasn't perfect. Some people didn't like the changes or the acting.
But seeing Welcome to Raccoon City in IMAX? It was a different experience. A truly terrifying, immersive experience. Honestly, it covered up some of the cracks.
Must Read
The Jump Scares Were...Jumping Higher
Let's be real, jump scares are cheesy. But in IMAX, they are next level. Suddenly, that Licker bursting through the wall wasn't just a quick scare. It was a heart-stopping, scream-inducing moment.
You felt like you were right there in the Spencer Mansion, dodging mutated dogs. Each scare was amplified. My popcorn almost went flying.
The sheer size of the screen made the horror feel inescapable. Trapped. Just like Claire Redfield.

Raccoon City Felt...Bigger and Creepier
Raccoon City always felt like a character in the games. Gritty, decaying, and full of secrets. The IMAX screen captured this perfectly.
The details of the rundown police station? The ominous fog rolling through the streets? They all popped. Every corner seemed to hold a terrifying secret.
You could almost smell the decay (thankfully, you couldn't actually smell it). This made the whole experience more engaging.
The Action Sequences? Whoa.
Whether you liked the action or not, in IMAX it was intense. The gunfights felt more chaotic. The zombie hordes seemed more overwhelming.

Imagine Leon S. Kennedy's rookie struggles on a screen that size. Hilarious and slightly mortifying for him, utterly entertaining for me.
The helicopter crash? Forget about it! Explosions! Fire! Mayhem! Pure cinematic spectacle. Even if some plot points were... questionable.
Was It Perfect? Absolutely Not.
Look, I'm not saying IMAX magically fixed all the movie's flaws. The pacing was still a bit off for some. Certain character interpretations still ruffled feathers.
But the immersive experience undeniably elevated it. The visuals were stunning. The sound was bone-rattling. Everything was louder.

It distracted me. It was a loud distraction from the questionable adaptation choices. I am OK with that.
So, the Verdict?
Maybe I'm easily impressed. Maybe I just love big screens and loud noises. But I stand by my opinion.
Seeing Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City in IMAX made it a more enjoyable experience. It amplified the horror and the action.
It turned a potentially mediocre movie into a fun, thrilling ride. Sometimes that's all you need.

Next time they reboot it? I’m buying IMAX tickets in advance. Hopefully with Jill Valentine getting more screen time.
So, did IMAX save Welcome to Raccoon City? Maybe not entirely. Did it make it better? In my book, absolutely.
What do you think? Am I crazy, or did the IMAX experience enhance the movie for you too?
Don't hate me. Maybe...just maybe...give it another shot on the biggest screen you can find.
