Rascal Does Not Dream Of His First Love

Rascal Does Not Dream Of His First Love

Okay, confession time. I have an unpopular opinion. Get ready for it.

I think Rascal Does Not Dream Of His First Love isn't that amazing.

Don't get me wrong! I enjoyed Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai.

Sakuta, Mai, and Quantum Physics?

The original series had charm. It was a weird mix, sure. Sakuta, a bunny girl, and a dash of quantum physics? Sign me up!

But the movie? Mmm, let's just say it left me scratching my head more than once.

Nostalgia Goggles: Are We Wearing Them?

A lot of people seem to view it through rose-tinted glasses. Maybe it's the nostalgia. Maybe it's because Mai is, well, Mai.

I understand the appeal, trust me. She's great.

But objectively speaking, the plot felt… messy.

Shoko Makinohara: A Bit Too Much?

Let's talk about Shoko Makinohara. Two of her, actually. Young and adult version.

I get the whole tragic backstory and sacrificial love thing. Really, I do.

But was it necessary? Did we really need two Shokos messing with Sakuta's love life?

Overly Complicated Plot

The time travel element felt clunky. It introduced plot holes faster than I could keep track of.

One moment, Sakuta is saving Mai. The next, timelines are shifting and no one knows what's going on.

It felt like the writers threw in every dramatic trope they could find.

Where's the Bunny Girl Charm?

The original series had a breezy, quirky vibe. The movie? Not so much.

It felt heavy, overly sentimental, and frankly, a bit depressing. Where's the fun?

I missed the witty banter between Sakuta and Mai. I missed the lighthearted moments amidst the supernatural drama.

Character Development (or Lack Thereof)

Sakuta's character felt a bit stagnant. He’s still the selfless guy, but it didn't feel like he grew much.

Even Mai, despite her crucial role, felt somewhat sidelined.

The side characters were barely there. Remember them?

Unpopular Opinion: It's Okay to Disagree

I know, I know. I'm probably committing anime blasphemy. The internet will probably come for me.

But hey, it's just my opinion! And that's the beauty of opinions.

It's perfectly fine to love Rascal Does Not Dream Of His First Love. I just… didn't quite connect with it as much as everyone else.

Maybe I just wanted more bunny girl action. Is that so wrong?

So, let me know. Do you agree? Or am I completely off my rocker? Let the debate begin!
