Okay, Let's Talk About Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl

Confession time: I have THOUGHTS. Controversial ones, maybe. About this anime movie we all supposedly adore. Buckle up!

It's pretty, sure. The animation is nice. But is it perfect? Hmm...

Mai-san is Great, But...

Don't get me wrong. Mai Sakurajima is amazing. She's witty, strong, and completely gorgeous. Totally understandable why Sakuta is obsessed.

But sometimes I wonder... is she too perfect? Like, unrealistically perfect?

She’s got a comeback for everything. And never puts a foot wrong. Maybe I'm just jealous.

Shoko: The Real MVP?

Here's where I might lose some of you. I actually liked Shoko Makinohara's character more.

Hear me out! She's complex. Vulnerable. And her story is so heartbreaking.

Plus, the whole "adult" vs. "child" Shoko thing? It's way more interesting than the obvious romance.

The Time Travel Gets... Messy

Time travel always makes my brain hurt. Anime time travel? Exponentially worse.

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl isn't an exception. It gets confusing fast.

I spent half the movie trying to keep track of which Shoko was which and which timeline we were in. Anyone else?

Sakuta's Heroism: A Little Much?

Sakuta Azusagawa is a good guy. He jumps through hoops (and timelines) to save everyone.

But sometimes, his selflessness feels a little... forced? Like he's a superhero in disguise.

I mean, come on. Nobody is that willing to sacrifice themselves constantly. Give the man a break!

The Ending: Predictable or Satisfying?

Okay, the ending is happy. Everyone is (mostly) okay. Sakuta and Mai-san are together. Yay?

But did anyone really doubt that would happen? It felt a little too safe to me.

I wanted some genuine surprises! Some real emotional gut punches! Maybe I just like being sad.

Unpopular Opinion Time: Overrated?

Here it is. The big one. Is Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl a tad overrated?

I think so. It's good! But not the earth-shattering masterpiece everyone claims it is.

Maybe my expectations were too high. Maybe I'm just a grumpy anime fan. Who knows?

"Maybe the real treasure was the friends we made along the way..." - Everyone, probably.

Don't Get Me Wrong...

I still enjoyed it. The characters are likeable. The story is engaging. And the visuals are pretty.

But it's not perfect. And it's okay to admit that!
