Pretty Little Liars Original Sin Season 1 Episode 1

Okay, let's talk about Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, Episode 1. I know, I know, another reboot. But hear me out!
Everyone seems to rave about it. But did anyone else think it was... a little cheesy? Don't get me wrong; I enjoyed it. But certain things had me rolling my eyes.
Millwood's Got Issues (And Some Bad Wigs)
First, the setting: Millwood. A town stuck in the past. Think small-town horror meets teen drama. They have a parade dedicated to a tragic event. Awkward!
Must Read
Then there's Imogen, our resident pregnant teen. She's dealing with a lot! Grief, secrets, and, of course, the terrifying A. Girl's got her hands full.
And the wigs! Some of those hairstyles looked like they escaped a Halloween store. Just saying. Did the budget go entirely to the killer's mask?
The 90s Flashback... More Like a Flash-forward to Cliches
The 90s opening? Interesting. A bunch of mean moms behaving badly. We're supposed to feel sympathy later? Good luck with that!

These women made questionable choices. Like, REALLY questionable. Did no one have a therapist back then? Apparently not.
And Angela Waters' story is heartbreaking. But the execution felt a little heavy-handed. Maybe a touch too melodramatic?
Our New Liars: Promising (But Predictable)
The new Liars crew? They're okay. We've got the sporty one, the artistic one, the dancer, etc. Archetypes galore!

Tabby's a horror movie fanatic. Which, let's be honest, is perfect for this show. She probably knows how to survive a slasher flick.
Noa's dealing with juvie. Mouse is super shy. Faran's battling ballet bullies. Their backstories are intriguing, I admit.
That Ending, Though... Over the Top?
The episode's climax? A full-blown horror show. Blood, screaming, and a masked maniac. It was intense!
Imogen getting that surprise? Seriously twisted. Talk about a dramatic reveal. This show does NOT pull any punches.

But was it a little too much? Like, horror movie levels of gore. I'm not sure if I'm watching PLL or Scream.
Unpopular Opinion Time: It's Good... But Not That Good
So, here's my unpopular opinion: the premiere was decent. Entertaining even! But not the groundbreaking masterpiece everyone claims.
It felt derivative. We've seen this before: masked killer, teen drama, small-town secrets. Nothing groundbreaking.

Maybe my expectations were too high. Or maybe I'm just a cynical viewer. Whatever it is, I remain cautiously optimistic.
I'll keep watching, of course. I need to know who A is! Plus, I'm a sucker for teen dramas. Send help (and maybe a better wig budget).
This show knows exactly what it's doing. Playing on nostalgia while trying to be edgy. We will see where it takes us.
So, what did you think? Am I totally off base? Or did anyone else feel a little underwhelmed? Let me know!
