Seriously, Where Was Our Ape Movie in 2022?
Remember 2022? Seemed like ages ago, right? Movies were back (sort of), popcorn was popping (mostly at home), and we were all expecting… something. Maybe even… apes?
Specifically, Planet of the Apes! The reboot trilogy ended. Brilliantly, I might add. Leaving us hanging. Panting. Needing more primate action!

So, 2022 felt ripe for a new installment. A continuation. A darn good reason to wear my Caesar t-shirt again.

Think about it! The last one, War for the Planet of the Apes, came out in 2017. Five years! That's, like, an ape lifetime in movie years.
We deserved more. We really did. Don't even try to tell me otherwise.
Why the Wait? My (Probably Wrong) Theories
Okay, okay. Maybe I'm being impatient. But let's brainstorm some reasons why our simian saga stalled.
Theory #1: Too Much Intelligence. Maybe the apes were too smart. Too evolved. Writers struggling to top themselves?
It's a tough gig! How do you out-smart a super-smart ape? Give them existential crises? A reality TV show?
Theory #2: Motion Capture Mayhem. The apes look incredible. That's thanks to wizards like Andy Serkis. But maybe it takes a billion years to animate them?
I'm picturing rooms full of computers. Technicians pulling their hair out. A single perfectly rendered ape hair taking a week to complete.
Theory #3: The Avatar Effect. Disney owns everything now, including the apes. Maybe they got distracted by blue aliens?
Giant blue space cats are pretty captivating. I get it. But seriously, don't forget your furry friends!
What's Coming? A Glimmer of Hope!
Luckily, all is not lost! There is a new Planet of the Apes movie coming! It's called Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.
Release date? Sometime in 2024. So, we're almost there! Just a little more waiting.
The story? Well, it takes place many years after Caesar's reign. New apes! New conflicts! Possibly even new monkey-related merchandise to buy!
My Unpopular Opinion: Should've Been 2022!
Look, I know. Delays happen. Creative visions take time. Budgets are tricky.
But in my heart, a little part of me will always believe Planet of the Apes 4 belonged in 2022. It just felt right.
Maybe I'm just an ape enthusiast with unrealistic expectations. Maybe I need to chill out and watch old ape movies. But I stand by my (probably wrong) opinion!
Give the people what they want! More apes! Sooner rather than later! - A slightly impatient Planet of the Apes fan.
