Pacific Rim The Black Taylor X Mei

Okay, let's talk Pacific Rim: The Black. We all love giant robots fighting monsters, right? But something's been bugging me. And I think I need to get it off my chest.
Is it just me, or does anyone else think Taylor Travis wasn't all that interesting? I mean, sure, he was the older brother. He felt responsible.
But did he really bring the spark? Did he have that "it" factor? I'm not entirely convinced, to be honest.
Must Read
My (Slightly Controversial) Take
I'm going to say it. Mei carried that show. There, I said it!
Don't get me wrong. Hayley was cool too. But Mei? She was a mystery wrapped in a cybernetic enigma.
And her fighting style? Forget about it. She was the real deal, a badass pilot and a compelling character.
The Problem with Protagonists
Sometimes, the "main" character isn't actually the most compelling. They're just... there. Fulfilling a role.

Think about it. Taylor spent a lot of time being conflicted and worried. Useful, sure, but hardly captivating.
Mei, on the other hand, was a constant source of intrigue. What was her past? What were her motivations?
Her powers added an extra layer of awesome. Did she struggle with being an AI inside a human body? Definitely a "yes"!
The Mei Appreciation Section
Let's give Mei the love she deserves. She protected the siblings, she fought the monsters, she rocked that whole mysterious vibe.

Even though Taylor and Hayley got top billing, she was the one I was always rooting for. She was the MVP.
Anyone else feel this way? Am I alone in thinking Mei should have been the central focus?
Let's Talk About the Jaeger
And let's be real, Atlas Destroyer was a beast! Okay, so the Jaeger wasn't as sleek as some of the others. It made up for it with sheer brute force and determination.
That old, clunky machine was still a powerhouse! Even with those pesky Kaiju trying to mess everything up.

It made the whole show more exciting. Each battle was a test of survival, a battle for their lives.
Unpopular Opinion Time?
I know, I know. Taylor was important. He was the leader. He was trying to do the right thing. Blah blah blah.
But Mei was just cooler! Maybe it's the whole silent assassin thing. Maybe it's the awesome fight choreography.
Or maybe, just maybe, I have a weakness for characters with complicated pasts. But I have to stick with what I believe.

So, there you have it. My (possibly) unpopular opinion. Mei was the real star of Pacific Rim: The Black. And Atlas Destroyer was awesome.
Don't @ me. (Okay, maybe @ me. But be nice!) I'm just saying what I think. And I think Mei deserves a statue.
Seriously though. Who doesn’t love a rogue AI turned hero?
Am I wrong? Probably not. But let's discuss.
