Out Of This World Tv Show Season 1

Out of This World: Season One - Was It Really That Bad?
Okay, let's be honest. Out of This World. It's a name that either brings back fond memories or makes you cringe. Season one specifically? Well, it's a mixed bag, to say the least.
The story of Evie Ethel Garland, half-human, half-alien teen. She suddenly develops superpowers on her 13th birthday. Sounds like pure 80s gold, right? Maybe...or maybe it was pure 80s cheese.
The Talking Cube: A Necessary Evil?
Let's talk about Troy Garland, Evie's alien dad. He lived on the planet Antareus and communicated through a magical cube. A CUBE! Seriously? It looked like something you'd find in a very low-budget toy store.
Must Read
But here's my unpopular opinion: I kind of loved the cube. It was quirky. It was memorable. And let's face it, the voice of Troy (Doug McClure) was pretty soothing, even if the cube itself looked like it was about to fall apart.
Evie's Powers: Super Strength and...Frozen Time?
Evie could freeze time by touching her index fingers together. Dramatic, I know. She also had super strength. It was a classic superhero combo, but often used for...less-than-heroic purposes.

Like getting out of awkward situations. Or cheating on tests. I'm not saying I condone this behavior. But aren't we all just a little bit tempted to freeze time sometimes? Just to get a leg up?
I am. Please don't judge.

The Supporting Cast: Bless Their Hearts
Poor Donna Garland, Evie's mom. She was always so confused. And rightly so! Her daughter was constantly freezing time and lifting cars. It's understandable why she always looked like she needed a nap.
Then there's Lindsay Selkirk, Evie's best friend. She was the voice of reason. The one who always pointed out how ridiculous everything was. We needed her. We all need a Lindsay in our lives.
The Plots: Predictable, But Comforting?
Okay, the plots of season one were often...simple. Evie gets in trouble. Evie uses her powers to get out of trouble. Evie learns a valuable lesson (usually). It's not exactly Shakespeare.

But there's a certain comfort in that predictability. You knew what you were getting. A lighthearted, silly show that didn't require a lot of brainpower. Sometimes, that's exactly what you need after a long day.
My Unpopular Opinion: Season One Has Charm
So, yeah, season one of Out of This World isn't a masterpiece. The special effects were laughable. The plots were formulaic. And the acting wasn't exactly Oscar-worthy.

But it had heart. It had humor. And it had a certain 80s charm that's hard to resist. Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but I actually enjoyed it. Maybe I am just a little weird.
So, next time you're scrolling through streaming services and see Out of This World, give season one a chance. You might be surprised. Or you might hate it. Either way, you'll have something to talk about. Probably while raising an eyebrow at that cube.
Just don't blame me if you get hooked.
